My nephew was 9 when he saved up a lot of coin (birfday money, allowances, state fair allowance, etc) and went to Knob creek with the intent of "Buying a Busse"...

He selected a Ratweiler (ptooey) because it felt best to him. I talked him into the tan scales and black finish.

Well, he met Jerry and Jennifer at Knob Creek, and that just made his day.

My sister says he'll come home from school, pack a pack with water and some chow, and this blade, then head out into the woods. Almost always comes back with it covered in dirt and debris....

What a corker....

So here is what a couple years of use by a now 12 year old looks like.

Gonna send it back to the shop for a resharpening because the edge is pretty rough after the truckloads of chopping he's done.

Awesome story, Mike!

We always knew you had some Rat in your bloodline somewhere. :p

Personally, I think every 12-year-old needs a Ratweiler.

I would of loved to have that knife when I was a kid!
All I had was a rusty buck 110:cool:

Ah, young boy pick great blade. I think he was smart to not listen to his Uncle Hammy and his Busse pushing. He got a hell of a knife for a hell of a good price that may outlast him. Remember kiddies, Rats rule!

awesome story!

boy, looks like he's given it a workout in 2 years --- by the time he'sold enough to drive, that RW may rival one of cliff stamp's blades for the "wear and tear" prize...

Your nephew is very fortunate. I had a crapweiler when I was 12. I think the thing was made out of zinc.

That is a great story. I wish like anything I could have had a Ratweiler when I was his age. What a lucky guy!!!

Lucky! I wish i could go there and meet Jerry and Jennifer and pick out a knife!

HA! I had a similar knife. Mine was post-Rambo period in history - maybe 83 or 84.

Oh, and I had a nice Swiss Army Knife - until my dad and uncle used it to open oysters one summer evening - and turned it into a Rust Army Knife.
