Yesterday was my nephews 14th birthday. He is a fine young man. He went whitetail hunting with his Dad and family last year. He borrowed his Dad's knife to dress out his first harvest last year on the family farm. I thought it was time that he had his own knife for deer hunting this year.
I gave him a Buck 110 yesterday and he was simply thrilled. He opened the box, took out the knife and...opened and closed it repeatedly. Looking at it like it was a bar of gold. Saying repeatedly "thank you soooo much" then more opening and closing with more fondling in between. Next his attention turned to the leather sheath...putting the 110 in and out of it...yes, repeatedly...saying "thank you so much" repeatedly.
I told him a little about the history of the 110. 14 million+ made since 1964 and one of the most copied designs ever of a hunter folder. He listened to every word. We talked about the brass bolsters, liners, the wood and the design of the lockback and Bucks lifetime guarantee (if not abused). And how I had carried a 110 for many years.
I don't know who was more happy, him or his Uncle Tom. I sure appreciated his reaction to his first "hunting" knife. It was a thrill for me to see how happy he was with the classic 110. I hope that he will have fond memories of it for a long time and put it to use this year.
