I'd like to get a sheath for my kit knife when it comes, and would like to know
what kind of options will be available to me.
If possible, I would like to have a leather sheath as opposed to a kydex one.
I like the JRE sheaths that came with my Bushcraft and Nessmuk knives.

Are there any other options?

Cheers.

I'm not sure yet....I could probably make up a prototype for JRE to work from...but I'm hesitant to, since I have no idea how many would be interested....since it is a kit...folks may want to make their own, or have it sent to their favorite sheath maker.

Probably more likely is I'll have my local leather guy (Butch) work up a simple pouch sheath...will probably be $40 or so for either knife....and I'll need the knife...since everybody's handles will be different.

Makes things complicated...that's why I haven't looked into it. I wish I could...but I think people would be disappointed with the end product..since it wouldn't fit their knife exactly.

I'm open to ideas...let's hear 'em.

I wouldn't waste my time on a sheath if I were you Dan......... for the exact reasons you have mentioned........
This is a "kit KNIFE" ....... we all should be able to work out a sheath on our own. Just my thoughts and .02.......... :D

There's more than a few guys on the BF Sheath forum that would be happy to help out. I'm planning on doing my own. Won't be pretty, but it'll work.

I suggest we cook up a sheath pattern - or patterns, and some how-to instructions. Sort of the same idea as the knife kit - most of the planning is already done, but you have to provide a little elbow grease to get it done.

I don't know what mail-order options there are for small pieces of leather. If I can get my hands on some decent leather, I'd be willing to cut up a side and send people sheath-sized pieces for minimal cost.

I have a bunch of 8-10 oz leather I'll never use...I could probably cut it down to sheath-sized pieces and make a few available if interested....

Dan by the time some of us rookies get through "working" on these kits we may not want a sheath!!;)
