Hey friends I am intrigued by this knife and would like to hold/use one but I hopes y'all could help me understand why the shape is desirable/useful! Thanks

Also, that curved blade is excellent for slicing stuffs and food prep. It's my favorite.

It's a very neat, extremely useful blade. It is adept at slicing tasks, and has a nice belly that allows you to rock through tough spots. The Nessie chops extremely well. I have one in 1/8 and the thinner blade really strips down bark. Now this could qualify as abuse... But while camping one weekend I went minimalist and brought the Nessie along. The back makes a nice little digger. I can't heap enough praise on the Nessie. It's good for skinning, light butchering, and deceptively blood at general bushcraft. Bonus round, it kills it in the kitchen.

Ha Ha! Kepha, you read my mind. Perusing the hump day thread today..again, it definitely pushed my interest and I think I decided I need one as well! Really want to try it out as everyone has such high praise for it.

Yep, pretty much hit the nail on the head. I've had about 4 now; I'd say that 5/32" TT is a perfect do-it-all profile, while the 'muk in 1/8" is as nimble of a slicer as you will find, while still remaining plenty stout for field tasks.... Plus it just looks cool. If I'm not mistaken, it was one of Andy's first profiles and all of the work and refinement the design has undergone over time really showcases Andy's evolution as a knife maker.

So.... Get one!!! ;)

the only one that I know much about is the camp nessie it is a nice all-around camp knife. but I know that Andy has been making nessmucks from the start.

also this thread needs pics :D

Sorry off topic....

Where you been Kephac?!?!

Missed you man, glad to see you in the mix again bro.

I haven't got to use my camp nessie much. Right after I got it I took it on a trip but there was a fire ban due to drought here in California so it saw little use. In honor of hump day, I took it out to goof around. I used talfuchre's awesome firesteel to try Thurin's, light the curls right on the feather stick trick. I had never tried it before. It took a few minutes but I was able to get the few curls I had to light up. Fun stuff.

Heya KephaC,

I don't have a standard nessie, just the camp version. I've documented my love of the Camp Nessie elsewhere, but I'll try to sum it up in a sentence or so.

The profile just works. It's tall enough that even at 5/32" in my example it's a great slicer. The belly gives it good all around function. It's sexy.

To compare to the quintessential Fiddleback: If you like a Bushfinger, then a Camp Nessie has a similar edge profile. In addition, with a similar grind, the taller blade makes it a better slicer. And it's sexy.

Did I mention it's sexy?
