I went back to the drawing board and stuck to the original design Nessmuk. I used 1/8" thick O1. Blade is 4 1/4", full convex grind. Handle is 4 1/4" with sambar stag scales and N/S pins. What do ya think?

Thanks everyone.;) This is really fun working on something different from my usual designs. From what I've been reading and seeing the blade shape is what makes it a Nessmuk. All the different ones I've seen have different shaped handles. Some are full tang and some are hidden tang. So all in all the blade is what this design is about.

The actual design was known superficially by its large hump, but that isn't the single focus of the design, much is critical to the thin blade stock and cross section. Nessmuk carried a small axe for chopping and a small folder for precision carving so the fixed blade was for everything inbetween and he critized heavy edge knives. The actual design is, as with most knives, fairly critical to the handle, here is some info on the knife plus an attempt by a modern maker to make a similar knife capturing the focus of the origional :

IIRC- the hump was a specific design feature. nessmuk didn't carry eating utensils, and the 'hump' widened the blade to be used for this purpose.

That is interesting, I have usually seen it mainly argued as a feature for skinning. It is also ironic that it would be used for such (spoon) given its promotion as a bushcraft knife. I'd simply carve a set of chopsticks, even a spoon takes just 5-10 minutes.
