Nessmuk trio idea

I was reading an article on George Sears, 'Nessmuk' as he is known. Motivated me to new thinking. I would love to have a set of three blades like that. I love the idea of a double bit axe, a fixed blade and another knife of some kind. He used a twin blade knife like a trapper or something. I am not into those kinds of knives but would love to have a Sebenza instead. I was thinking about getting all three with a matching piece of wood on all three. Probably cost a pretty penny but it would be worth every bit just for the pride of ownership.

Along with the double-bitted axe a Fallkniven A1 and a SAK would do the trick. Not fancy, but effective.Look at axes by Warren from Bethel, NC

There are quite a few here and on the outdoors-magazine forum that feel the same. However, I think, if you really want something practical (and I am sure that would be in Nessmuk's spirit) I think you would want to go with rather plain looking straight grain Hickory for the axe handle, which might be too plain for your other two pieces.

Nice idea. Sebenza small classic with a nice light wood burl inlay, Gransfors axe of your choice and if you don't want to push out for a Randall then how about a BRKT or Blackjack 4/5" fixed blade .

You can get a small hatchet and a Nessmuk knife and a moose pattern folder and you'll have the original Nessmuk trio, 3 very effective pieces.

Bark River has a couple of Nessmuk patterns, the Nessie and the Adirondack Guide, and the Wolf River is similar.

Here is a link to Selections from Woodcraft and Camping by Nessmuk. Scan down a short way and you'll find a picture of his three edged tools. :)

I've been playing this game, too.

I got as far as:
Queen Special Muskrat 4" (w/D2 Blades)
D.H. Russell Belt Knife or Roselli Hunter
Gränsfors Small Forest Axe

I don't see this as definitive, as it's not based on research or any deep knowledge of knives - and, let's face it, the list will probably be different tomorrow. . . but I was trying to go for traditonal and reasonably priced.

But I have to admit that, if he was around today, Nessmuk would likely cut down on weight and cost, and would take:
Opinel No. 8
Frosts Mora (w/3 ¾ ins. blade)
Bahco Laplander Folding Saw

What's that sound? Oh yeah, Nessmuk rolling over in his grave. :D

Actually, I think, he would rather laugh out loud and nod approvingly. He used to be teased by his friends for the outrageous amount of money (at those times) that he spend in order to have an axe (THE Nessmuk axe) custom made to his specifications. :D

I read the above Nessmuk article a while ago.
It's an interesting idea.

My duo (no axe yet)
Is a Vic SAK Soldier
and a BK&T CU/7 (which can be used in an axe like fashion)

I am in the proces of getting a nessie knife made up. The Gransfors SFA is probably the axe - thought here is rumour of a superb new axe on the BCUK site - but this always seems to be the easy bit

The folder!! What to do. Sebbie is interesting, as is an Al Mar mini SERE (but in a differet way) and I have seen a fixed blade option taken up

I wonder about a carbon steel, Bulldog sowbelly, but at the moment I am caught between these two contenders for authenticity:

The new Vintage Knives 1902 Moose and the Winchester even ender trapper (both swell centres)
