Nessmuk trio question?

I'm currently reviewing all my gear in prep for my 2013 hunts. I feel my current nessmuk trio is inadequate: I've been using this old cheap hatchet and its just not doing the job anymore. How many use a hatchet? How many use a large knife/machete? Any recommendations?

I think it depends on your area and experience/comfort level. I live in southern AZ and have no real need for a hatchet. A larger knife and a saw is all I'll ever need here.

Right I live and hunt where both will do the job, and I've used both (home made khukri that is pretty effective for what I could do with a cut off saw and grinders). But I'll be moving soon into more heavily forested area and is not sure which will work. I'm figuring ill just have to try both like many things in life.

I've always used either a hatchet or hawk for yard work and camping. The new hatchets from hardcore hammers look pretty good, made in the USA and priced reasonably at the $40 range. I'm considering one myself.

The Axe forum on here will get you tons of good advise, also search the net for the free .pdf "An Axe to Grind."
