Nested Linerlock?

I do not yet own a nested linerlock (Well, maybe I do...I have a Cricket and Micheal Walker Lwt., but I mean high-end). Does the nested linerlock in G-10 hold up comparable to a liner that runs the whole handle length, and is there danger of it becoming "jiggly"?

Just curious. I am planning on buying either a Starmate or Military within a few days. (Darn, the decision still is not easy between the two!)

In theory, as well as in practice I'm sure, the nested liner/lock is stronger than the more commonly used full liner w/lock. If you do a search here you can find a wealth of info on this.

As for wear, I can't give you a 100% expert opinion as to how one wears against the other as I have only had to send in one knife for a liner adjustment, and it wasn't a Spydie. I would guess that they would wear identically to another liner in the same conditions. This is a tricky subject to discuss because things like the shape of the blade tang, the thickness of the liner, the material of the liner, how well the overall fit/finish were to begin with and a few other things come into play.

Given time all locks will wear, but I believe the two you are asking about have an eccentric pivot that makes a worn linerlock work like a new knife with a simple trip to the factory.

Nested liner locks are just as strong if not stronger. It is to do with the fact that it is supported by the whole G10 and not a few pins into a steel/Ti liner. The surface area and strength is thus greater. If there is one rule here it is that if Spyderco do it, they do it for a darn good reason!

Get the Military!
