I have an Acer Aspire One, new in January of '09.

Does anyone know if the RAM is uprgadeable? No luck finding anything on their website.

It has 1GB now, and I'd like to install another 1GB.

I should just replace the thing with a regular laptop, but this thing does what I need it to do, and it does it very well.

Thanks.

Mike, netbooks normally only have 1 slot for ram so you need to remove the 1gb stick and replace it with a 2gb stick. Most netbooks handle 2GB.

Thank you everyone.

I do currently have 1GB on board, according to the computer, and the box it came in.

There should be a small bay on the bottom of the computer that you unscrew to access the RAM chip. As mentioned above, you can upgrade to 2GB on many models. Not 100% sure of the Acer. My ASUS Eee PC netbook was an easy upgrade to 2GB.

Crucial.com is great. If their scanner can't answer the question you can send them an email and get a quick answer.

The small bay underneath is empty. There isn't anyplace to plug in anything.

I'll have to remove the entire bottom to see where the RAM is.

Mike please post the part number or model number of the goofy thing so one of us can chase down the info for you?
Acer does some goofy crap (I used to be warranty certified to fix about a dozen of their laptops). The ram is probably under the keyboard or behind the battery it may all be on-board or it may be split up.

If you don't have an easily accessible RAM bay, your computer is most likely not upgradable, or at least not designed to be upgradable. You may be able to do it, but you're probably gonna have to dig to access it. I know that's one of the selling points when I picked my ASUS... the fact that the RAM was easily upgradable. Bought a 2GB module at the same time I purchased the computer and installed it right away.

Model # ZG5

P/N LU.S410B.087

I purchased it at Costco at the end of January 2009. It says it was manufactured that month as well.

It has 1GB of DDR2, 160GB HDD, and WIN XP 32 bit.

Thanks for all the links.

Looks like I can only upgrade by 512MB, so I think I'll look around for a new one.

If it's only $19 you should probably upgrade it anyway, for when you sell it or give it away ...
