Hey guys! Here is another mod I recently done on a Cold Steel Hawk. I didn't spend as much time modding it as I do my others because I wanted to try a few different techniques. I am not that big of a fan of acid etching but I thought I need to try it at least once. I made a random "neuron" looking pattern on the head with some finger nail polish then dipped it into some Ferric Chloride for about 2 hours then lightly sanded it with some fine grit sandpaper after I took it out. I think it turned out halfway decent. This definitely isn't one of my favorite mods I have done but It still came out kind of cool! This particular piece was giving to a transferring soldier. The video below goes into a little more detail about it.

Did you start with the CS haft/handle? I've bought a couple from a big online retailer and had bad luck with the hafts. The grain orientation was consistently perpendicular to the edge, and the handles are too thin all the way until the last inch where there's a big knob. So the only part of the head that mates on the haft is the top edge. The second one I was able to reprofile enough that the top half inch of the head contacts the haft.

Actually no. The haft I used was from a bulk order of them. I have had bad luck like you before but for the most part they have been relatively decent. Most of them are going to fit like you described though, maybe not quite as bad. There have been some I had to sand down a lot to make it fit right, then some I had to swap out with another head because the haft was way too skinny. Luck of the draw sometimes I suppose!
