My girlfriend and I will be spending a few days in Las Vegas next month; So I am curious to know what the knife laws are in NV (particularly Las Vegas). Is there a limit on the size of folding knife a person can legally carry?

I asked this a while ago and, IIRC, the answer was that folders shouldn't be concealed, and FB's are frowned upon in Vegas. Hopefully someone who knows for sure will jump in here.

But you carry smallish (by my standards, i.e., <3.5") folders anyway, so I wouldn't worry too much.

BTW, how's it goin'? Are finals as bad for you as they are for me this semester?

Within Las Vegas, you may not carry concealed a dangerous or deadly weapon. This is defined in the Las Vegas Municipal code:

""Dangerous or deadly weapons" includes, but it not limited to:

(A) Any dirk or dagger;

(B) Any knife with a blade three inches or more in length;

(C) Any snap-blade or spring-blade knife, regardless of length of the blade;

(D) Any ice pick or similar sharp stabbing tool;

(E) Any straightedge razor or any razor blade fitted to a handle;

(F) Any dangerous or deadly weapon within the meaning of any law of this State restricting the use thereof; and

(G) Any cutting, stabbing or bludgeoning weapon or device capable of inflicting grievous bodily harm; and

(H) Any firearm other than one carried pursuant to a valid permit issued by a duly authorized governmental authority or an ordinary rifle or shotgun lawfully carried for purposes of hunting or other lawful sport.

(1949 code Ch. 38 § 4; prior code § 6-3-4)

Don't know if this it too late for you to use...but I hope it helps.

Abel,

Thanks for the info!

That sucks about the 3 inch blade limit though. I don't have any folders with under 3 inch blades!

For future reference, remember that 3 inches is the blade length limit if you are carrying your knife *concealed*. If you are carrying the knife where it's visible to common observation, you should be fine even if it is a larger folder or even fixed blade.

You're welcome for the info. Any more Las Vegas questions, feel free to ask.

Don't most of the casino's have a "no weapons allowed" policy (unless you got some juice or somethin' - heh)???
