Back from a 3 day trip to Nevada. Went to see Mt. Charleston, outside of Las Vegas, one day after they got hit by a snow storm that dumped 1 foot of fresh powder on the mountain. All the trails were covered up and almost impossible to see in the snow. The plan was to camp and possibly summit the peak, but overnight lows were said to be in the low teens and not everyone was keen on this idea. Instead, the weekend was a chance to see the mountain, and plan a return trip to summit the peak after the snow has gone. I saw Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Boulder City, and a very interesting place- Nelson Nevada!
These are my trip photos of Mt. Charleston, NV.
Before getting out
Time for a meal
Tom Yum Thai noodles were also on the menu. I don’t eat very much when I am hiking, but winter time in sub-freezing temperatures is the exception!
The "in the snow hobo camp stove set up," with Trioxane fuel.
A simple spark is all it takes.
Heavy snowfall
Pretty hard to get lost in the snow
