I carry a SAK in my pocket almost every day, but have a Leatherman Kick in my work bag. I currently work at a small company and if something gets broken, a new machine has to be installed, the computer network has to be extended, etc., we need to fix this ourselves. Pliers and screw drivers of several sizes and types come in very handy then. We have a tool kit with dedicated tools, but in many cases it is easier for me to reach for my work bag, that I always throw under my desk, and grab my Kick. Only if the Kick or SAK can't do the job, then I go to the lab to get dedicated tools.
There's something I noticed quite often: people who don't have a multitool/SAK see little use for it in their daily lives, but once they own one, they see many tasks their multitool/SAK can help them. After a while it becomes a part of their 'system'.
A former collegue with whom I worked at several projects and who became a friend of mine, wasn't into knives/multitools/SAKs until he met me. He never tought of owning such items, but saw me using my Victorinox Climber a lot at the office and in the lab; the red Climber is my favourite SAK in an office environment, it's very useful and doesn't scare people. After a while he got interested and at his birthday I bought him a red Climber. After a few months I noticed that when he needed to open a package or to cut paper or cord, he reached for his Climber without thinking and used the SAK. It had become part of his system.
If you want to try out a plier based tool, I suggest getting the Leatherman Kick. It's a basic, light and affordable model, but very useful. Put it on the belt or your working bag and use it. At some day, when fixing something, you'll realise that you reached for it without really thinking about it.
The Leatherman Juice S2 would also be a nice option, but it is smaller and although very useful, I prefer the grip of the Kick. Which is a bit longer and a bit more comfortable, especially if you have to work with it for a longer time, but that's my opinion. I also prefer the blade and the can opener on the Kick. The Kick doesn't have scissors, but I can live with that.
Also, here in the Netherlands the Juice S2 is much more expensive than the Kick. In the shops the Kick costs about 45 euros and the Juice S2 costs about 78 euros. I was lucky last week and could buy to brand new Kick's for 25 euros each. So now I have three of them. I put one in my car and gave my father the other one.
