I have knives, and everyone knows how useful that can be... No need to elaborate on that..

But I have never had a multi-tool and I am know looking into getting one...but I can't really find that much use, at least presently, for pliers and I have never really had that much need it for it ever..

So now, I just wanted to know, what do you guys use your pliers for?

I use my LM wave all the time. However I dont work in a office, I work with my hands. If you dont need pliers then get a SAK (Swiss Army Knive). But in reality once you have the tool you will find many many uses for it. Funny but true.

I use pliers for anything my fingers aren't strong enough or small enough for. :) How many times have you had to go out to the garage, down to the basement, back to the shop, for screw drivers or pliers? If the answer is a lot then you'll benefit from a multi-tool.
If that's not an issue, knives are prettier.
Of course it's more complicated than that with all the tool offerings on multi's these days but that's the simple way of looking at it.
IMO even if it's not an everyday carry item, a good multi-tool is worth it's weight in gold.

I got turned on to MT's early in my Army Career, I first thought they were like a cheep piece of junk until I got a Leatherman PST, I have had a leatherman or many leathermans ever since. I use one alot both around the house and at work. I currently favor the LM Super tool 300 and am looking forward to the MUT!!!!!

If you are a smaller guy I would go with a Leatherman Blast, gives you all the tools you will need, If you are a big guy you may want to go with the LM Surge or ST 300.

Look on the bright side, they are not that exspensive, I picked up my last ST 300 for $59.95 tax free on base at our PX. You can find it that cheap online but with shipping charges.

Lol, the days i carry my swisstool i make note of all the times i use pliers or other tools on it. Then, when i don't have it on, i notice when i need them! Just a few weeks ago i was following my mom up to a town about an hour away. Next thing i know, i see no brake lights on her car. So i had her stop in a parking lot and i checked the fuses, bulbs, etc. If i hadn't had the swisstool on me my job would have been that much harder.

I use pliers mainly as substitute to wrench, that's why I need them full size. Other than that I use them to cut stuff (zip ties, cables, baling wire, etc.), pull heavy staples off, turn valves with missing handles, etc.

I used to be a commercial electrician. One Saturday on overtime I change cars and forgot to get my tools out from the other car but I had my Swiss tool. I made it all day working with that tool. If I didn’t have that I would have been in big trouble. It had all the tools that I needed for that day.

now i wish i own a swiss tool!... the only multitool i got is old leatherman PST... oldschool but have seen many usefull duty....

mostly i just need a small SAK for daily tools... but i'm thinking to got one for traveling... man, i just got a swiss champ and now i want to have a newer and updated multitool!

my advice, get a smallish one, start carrying it, and you will soon learn if you need a bigger one or not. as they say, to a hammer, everything looks like a nail.

I am never more than ten feet away from my Gerber multi-plier and my minimag.

Try one and you will find you never will do without one.

I carry an SAK wherever I go but the Gerber is also part of the bag of tricks.

I thought the same thing before I got into MTs. I EDC a SAK but the pliers on the leatherman come in useful for a lot more than turning bolts. I used the wire cutters to do some light tree trimming, also one time I stepped on my macbook charger when it was plugged in and bent the eletrical prong. My leatherman wave bent it back with no trouble. These are just a few examples.

I carry a SAK in my pocket almost every day, but have a Leatherman Kick in my work bag. I currently work at a small company and if something gets broken, a new machine has to be installed, the computer network has to be extended, etc., we need to fix this ourselves. Pliers and screw drivers of several sizes and types come in very handy then. We have a tool kit with dedicated tools, but in many cases it is easier for me to reach for my work bag, that I always throw under my desk, and grab my Kick. Only if the Kick or SAK can't do the job, then I go to the lab to get dedicated tools.

There's something I noticed quite often: people who don't have a multitool/SAK see little use for it in their daily lives, but once they own one, they see many tasks their multitool/SAK can help them. After a while it becomes a part of their 'system'.

A former collegue with whom I worked at several projects and who became a friend of mine, wasn't into knives/multitools/SAKs until he met me. He never tought of owning such items, but saw me using my Victorinox Climber a lot at the office and in the lab; the red Climber is my favourite SAK in an office environment, it's very useful and doesn't scare people. After a while he got interested and at his birthday I bought him a red Climber. After a few months I noticed that when he needed to open a package or to cut paper or cord, he reached for his Climber without thinking and used the SAK. It had become part of his system.

If you want to try out a plier based tool, I suggest getting the Leatherman Kick. It's a basic, light and affordable model, but very useful. Put it on the belt or your working bag and use it. At some day, when fixing something, you'll realise that you reached for it without really thinking about it.

The Leatherman Juice S2 would also be a nice option, but it is smaller and although very useful, I prefer the grip of the Kick. Which is a bit longer and a bit more comfortable, especially if you have to work with it for a longer time, but that's my opinion. I also prefer the blade and the can opener on the Kick. The Kick doesn't have scissors, but I can live with that.

Also, here in the Netherlands the Juice S2 is much more expensive than the Kick. In the shops the Kick costs about 45 euros and the Juice S2 costs about 78 euros. I was lucky last week and could buy to brand new Kick's for 25 euros each. So now I have three of them. I put one in my car and gave my father the other one.

GET ONE!!!
you'll never go without one again. It's one of those "I'm so glad I don't have to get out my toolbox from the shed" kind of things, saving you tons of time and round trips to the shed because you needed yet another tool :)

I am sure others have said the same thing. If you get one you will use it. I have a SOG Power Assist and I love it. I don't use it all the time but when I need it its there.

Also if you do any fishing those plyers come in real handy.I carry an LM Blast, because I really prefer the shape of the handles to anything else.I carry mine daily to work as well.I never know when I might need it,so why not have it.

Look at it this way, depending on the model of plyer based tool you are carry anywhere from 12-20+ tools on you in such a small package. You literally have a mini tool box at your side at all times. Once you have one you'll come across many tasks for it, many that might be impossible or very difficult to do without having a multi tool.

If you check out leatherman sites, click on the "For Owners" it has a "Tool Tales" section. Some very cool stories that users have submitted over the years. A couple that I remember reading is a man had fallen through the ice into a river/lake and used the pliers to dig into the ice until he could pull himself to safety. Or the hunter who's dog got caught up in a mess of barbed wire, the tool made short work of it and he was able to free his dog. You never know what might come up, but if you have a multi with you your a lot more prepared than most people would be.

I carry a wave and can't count the times it's come in useful. For the small price tag these tools carry I'd go for it, you won't be disapointed!

I carry a Gerber Clutch and have used the screwdriver countless times. The scissors have also come in very handy.
