this week. I had signed up for 2 different pass-arounds...one started by Paddling_man and the other by thegratenate. I had forgotten about the Paddling_man pass-around until large and heavy box arrived. I opened it and to my surprise there were 2 Busse knives. A SFNO and a SJTAC. Like I said...I've never held or even seen a Busse so I when I picked up the SFNO...well....quite a beast. I chopped through some scrap wood just to get a feel for it. It performed well...the convex edge held up well. I still prefer my ax but the SFNO was more than capable. Next was the SJTAC. I have to say...I like this one better than the SFNO. I'm not much of a big blade person so I liked the SJTAC better right from the start. The blade is a little longer and thicker than I prefer but this could easily fill all my camp chore needs. Next up was a Double cut/black micarta GW from thegratenate's pass-around. I loved this one the second I pulled it from the sheath. Again....thick....but it's a Busse. I could find nothing about this knife I didn't like except......no choil. The SFNO and SJTAC have huge choils for what much be some pretty fat fingers :p Personally, I would like a smaller but still usable choil for the GW but I can understand why some one would not want give up that much edge on an already short blade. I think an Active Duty or a Meaner Street might be the perfect first Busse for me based on comparison of the 3 I have now.

Thanks for the review! Those are some pretty cool blades to check out. I agree with you on the AD or MS, though. The AD is definitely my favorite EDC blade Busse makes.

Welcome to the club! I can wholeheartedly recommend either the Meaner or the Active Duty

I've never handled a SFNO :( but for me the SJTAC is just perfect for camping. I have a CG one so the blade is only 3/16s thick. Its lightweight, quick and easy to manipulate and can serve reasonably well as a light duty chopper. I also think the blade profile is just a work of art. :D But for every day use I love the Active Duty.

Excellent! I'm glad they arrived!

How do you like that killer SFNO sheath from Chuddy Bear? Awesome, eh?

(The other flea-market looking sheath for the SJTAC was the one I made. ;) )

The Chuddy Bear sheath is extremely nice. He made me one for a RAT-5.
The other sheath isn't nearly as bad as you say. The knife seems secure....durable design and construction.....what more do you need a sheath to do? Pick up chicks for ya?

Am I to understand correctly that you have TWO CG SFNOs?

Can I have one?

Great news on the passaround did you take any pics ? I can't wait to have that SFNO in my mits .

I just received my very first Busse, an Active Duty. In fact it is the very first Busse I have even seen in the flesh. I was a little surprised by it's size at first. Sure, I've read the dimensions and so on but, for me, the numbers don't really mean that much until I'm actually holding something. It was a little smaller than I had imagined. This, in fact, was a good thing, I'm not really a big blade fan. As for the thickness of the blade, I knew they were thick but actually holding it emphasised just how solid this thing is. I haven't really had a chance to use it yet but I can't imagine it not handling just about anything I'm likely to want to do with it.

If an extremely solid knife that's on the "smaller" side is what you're looking for, I'd definitely have a serious look at the AD.

here are some pics of all three knives

the "scuff marks" on the SJTAC are just a bad reflection

I think the GW was having some size...inferiority issues so I put it next to my Case damascus peanut to make it feel better.

Glad you got them okay. Gotta tell you that the SFNO has a nice V-grind edge which I put on her with my new Apex. Infi takes a great edge, V or convex, and it holds up really well

Thanks for the excellent photos

If you like a meaner street with a larger choil, check out the Bandicoot. they are the exact same blades except the bandicoot has the choil. Might take a little time to score, but it really feels good in the hand. John
