But after lurkin' here for a little while, it seems something odd must be going on with this "Busse" thing...
Okay, I've been collecting/using for a long time and I have been hesitant at looking at a Busse... primarily 'cause there was that bit of a row a few years ago between Cold Steel and Busse and who's the tougher of the two... Well, I thought I'd let that issue all settle out and see for myself. So, I've read a little that a lot of you guys have written, I've been to several shows... Busse was at Bladewest, but I didn't get to see the demo :grumpy: ... I've looked at customs (RWClark has a nice one out now called the Grunt Mod 11 and mod 12) and I've owned several commercial blades.
I'm not a heavy user, per se, but I'm looking at a nice field knife, between 7 - 11 inches, that I can rely on no matter what. So far, the Battle Mistress line has piqued my interest, but I'm not overly fond of the new handle style... I like the older straight handle configuration... So... I guess I was wondering what the fair market price range would be for a 9" BM straight handle, w/either kydex or nylon for a sheath. Now, I do have my eye on two versions at Bladeart.com... it's just that I'm ignorant of both the pricing and user experience of the Battle Mistress...
Anyone wishing to help a Busse ignorant knifeknutt?? :D
In advance... Thanks!

Joe,
Welcome to the Busse Forum. Glad you stopped by :D:D

The Battle Mistress is the Flagship of the line. The older straight handle models will sell for anywhere between $500-$700 depending on use, age, sheath, etc.

Take a look at the FAQ located here http://www.bussecombat.com/faqs.html for some general information and then hang out awhile. This is a good group and I'm sure all your questions will be answered.
:D:D

Welcome to the Busse forum Joe. I guess you could call us
an odd bunch. Some are odder then others.;) :D

for both the welcome and the info.
And Chip... I wouldn't say "odd"... maybe just focused? ;)
And I can understand why; if ya find something really good - go with it!
Yes, I've found some good stuff over the years and some of it elicites a sense of passion for the piece in question. But I don't necessarily label that as odd... unless I start exibiting unnatural urges towards said object!
Anyway, Chris Reeves' stuff has worked well for me oveer the years on my various campouts and dayhikes here in the Northwest... but I sometimes think there are other blade styles that may offer me a little more and I'm not sure I want to go out and abuse some of my 'queens'... or maybe it's just time I sweetened up the choices for field carry with another new blade!!!
I haven't decided yet, but I do have my eyes on a particular BM straight handle in a kydex sheath... and a credit card in my pocket... dang :D
Who knows... maybe soon I will become one of you?!?!

edited for atrocious spelling... or lazy fingers?

Hey! I resemble that remark..! :p

Welcome aboard. Everyone around here except for a very select few are a little odd. The reswt of us are a lot odd!

You might consider the Busse Basic 7 or 9. They are available now and then on BF and e-Bay. I never cared much for the "E" handle either, but the Basic handle is almost perfect. You might also take a look at the Swamp Rat line of knives. They have been getting very good reviews and use the same handle as the Busse Basics.
