I use to be very adamant about never owning a small Sebenza. I didn't see the point. Everytime I got a Sebenza, it'd be a large one. Why mess with a small? Just get a Mnandi instead. So I did that. Well, the size of the Mnandi got me curious about a small Sebenza. Chatting with a friend here he offered up one at a reasonable price, so I gave in.

Well, I'm very glad I did. It's a great size. A little larger then the Mnandi, considerably smaller then a large Sebenza or the Umnumzaan.

This one is in Snakewood and I'm thrilled to death about it.

I still prefer the large or the Umnumzaan as they fit my hand a bit better, in fact shortly after getting this I called CRK and ordered a large Snakewood:D, but I am pleased with the small and can see myself owning another two or three. It's light as a feather, much like the Mnandi, and it feels pretty good in hand.

At anyrate, i've exposed myself to another avenue of purchase, no longer limited to larges only. Man, what a terrifying thought!:p

That's a beautiful knife my friend, I love the snakewood ~ it's just a striking wood no matter which scales they're bolted to. My very first CRK (Ole Glory) was a small Sebbie, despite the fact they don't fit me well enough to EDC. But that's ok, because there's a nice selection of large Sebbies for that purpose; plus, the Mighty Zaan demands pocket time. All in all though, I still won't write off a small Sebbie even though I won't use it, I'll just re-designate its purpose.

very nice collection!

id buy a large but its not legal for me to carry where i live :thumbdn:

Ummmm .... Snakewood. Me like!! And, it was done up right. I love them with gold hardware .... just seems to go so well together. Lately, I have been seeing some advertised where Chris has been using silver hardware. Don't find that quite as appealing as the gold.

Im looking to get a sebenza 21 in the next year or so (summer time) and wanted to know if i should get a small or a large? (i would hopefully not by another sebenza for many years after...)

I like the small a lot. Didn't think I would, but it really grows on you. I find it quite comfortable in the hand, at least as good as a Mini Griptillian, with all the CRK advantages.

Thanks everybody! I like it tremendously. It won't be kicking My large Regulars, my Annual, or the Mighty Zaan out of my pocket, but it sure as hell will be joining them!

The Snakewood is gorgeous and I agree drh, the gold hardware seems to compliment it very well. It almost feels like cutlery jewelery!

At any rate, MEJ if your going to just have the one for years I'd go with the large. The price increase from small to large isn't so much when you consider just how much knife your getting. I included the Zaan and Mnandi for size comparison. The large Sebenza is about the same size as the Umnumzaan and as you can see there is a definite difference. Just my two cents!

I agree, it's very comfortable in hand which I was a bit concerned about at first.

I just went the other way, started small and went big. I didn't think I would get a large and now I have 2 regulars and a 21 on the way. I think the large are going to be mostly collectors for me though. They do fit the hand better but I like having a Mnandi or small Sebenza in my rfp, especially at work.

It's like we are opposites! I use my larges and kind of keep my smaller ones as "collector" pieces:D

Off topic, but when your knives roll in I want a group pic!

I had preferred to carry a small Insingo for a very long time, felt like the large Seb was just a touch too big, then I bought my Tanto Umnumzaan and after almost two years as my main edc blade I feel like the small is just a touch too short when I carry it ;P crazy I know, but what can I say, I'm a reeveaholic;D
My next two CRK's will be large's, then- who knows, but I'm guessing 25

I'm a drinker of reevahol aswell.

Next up is a small damascus Sebenza. I can feel it!

Alright... the large it will be! (unless i start liking the umnumzaan...)

Thx for the reply

Go this route, and it's just a thought:

1.) Large Sebenza
2.) Umnumzaan
3.) Mnandi
4.) Small Sebenza

....just a thought;)

I keep telling newcomers to start with the large, and I do prefer to carry a large. But lately I've been hitting the smalls...hard. I currently own a 21 ebony inlay, a micarta insingo, a regular unique graphic, a 2009 annual with Thuya, and a 21 with ladder damascus. I find that I only carry one large, my favorite knife of all time, my large plain jane 21. But I rotate out the smalls like jewelry. I really enjoy picking out my small before I leave the house. I never liked just a plain jane small as my main EDC. But in the role of pocket jewelry, they are thriving. I love the design of the Mnandi, but it is just too small for me. The smalls fill that role of capable, pretty, gentlemanly EDC for me.

Very well put:thumbup:

I guess I should have put up a pic of a large Sebenza versus a small one since that's what I had been talking about. Was too lazy to get a large out earlier, but got around to it:

Thanks for those photos, it's good to see the sizes.

I'm just waiting for my first CR knife, and picking which size of Senenza was a weeks-long process. I went through my collection, carrying different ones to remind myself of what I like and dislike, and see how I relate to the differences as I use them.

My small plain Insingo should be arriving this week.
