I usually don't take my spydies apart as it voids the warranty, but this one had custom work done. I noticed there are #'s on the blade where you couldn't normally see them...a manufacture date perhaps? I picked it up in a trade, so I have no idea what the letters on the box where.

As you thought, it's a manufacturing date and I believe it's been normal on the US made knives for a while now, at least the screw construction ones.
 
Yep, if they can tell you took it down or if you tell them warranty is void. I think common sense prevails though.
 
Competent disassembly/reassembly should be impossible to detect. Incompetent disassembly/reassembly voids the warranty. Given they had to start carrying a rebuild kit for the Endura and Delica, and the number of folks posting stripped screw tales of woe, there seem to be plenty of the later.
