Hi Folks!
Has anyone seen or heard of this knife before, I can't find a reference to it anywhere. It's a 171UH with a scrimshawed eagle and logo(we owe allegiance to no crown) on one side and the statue of liberty on the other.Seems to be made of real bone.
I'm stumped! By the way, this is an awesome forum, wish I'd have known about you guys sooner!
Thanks, Eric

PS It's the newer model, no bird head, SCHRADE USA

If you told everyone it's the one that just ended on Ebay they would probably know the one you were talking about. It's a beautiful knife.I wish I had seen it sooner.I've never seen one like it.Arnold

I guess I should have mentioned Ebay. Didn't really think many people had seen it, but what am I thinking, I'm on the Schrade forum! I sure paid a lot more than I expected. I placed a high bid but didn't expect someone to jump a hundred bucks at the last second. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

Codger , how do you post picks on these forums, I get a little message that says pick posting isn't allowed under this subscription (or something to that effect)
PS Thanks for posting them.

You copy/save the target picture in your computer picture files, then go to Tinypic.com , register (painless), upload the pic to their server, then copy/paste the URL here. You will see the URL when the pic uploads. It keeps from loading up the BF server since the pics reside offsite.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.

Finally!! Thanks for the help Codger!

I'm not sure, the knife should be arriving in a couple of days. According to the seller, the knife is mint, but that's just a matter of opinion. I kind of jumped on this knife because I've never seen anything like it, from Schrade or anyone else, and the feedback is pretty impeccable, but frankly I'm getting kind of nervous. I've already fished the brass pollish out of the closet.

To top everything else off I've been watching a Buffalo Bill Bowie auction down to the last five minutes, got waylayed by my friggin' puking cat, and missed the auction!!

Well the knife arrived today, and it's definitely not mint. On the plus side the scrimshaw and the handle itself is beautiful , except for a hair thin crack on each side, which I think the previous owner must have noticed. Also, the blade has been sharpened at some point, lightly but you can still see the scratch marks on the blade. Also, the swedge has a wicked sharp edge on it. Now this is actually my first 171, so I'm only guessing , but I was under the impression that they should have a dull swedge. Can anyone clarify this?

Too bad the seller felt he had to overstate the condition of the knife, as I think it is nice enough, even with the faults you mention, to stand on it's own merits. No, I never saw a factory sharpened top false edge. However, it is a beautiful looking customized knife.

oh yeah, I know all about puking cats.

Puking cats? You need to add a dog to the household mix. Makes cleanup a lot easier.
Very interesting customized knife.

Irv and Phil ,
Great idea!! I don't think I'd ever have to buy dog food.
It is a beautiful knife, too nice looking to put in a drawer. I'm going to give it a good polishing , build a nice glass case, and hang it on the wall. I'll send some photos when it's done.
