Has anyone tried those "never sharpen" kitchen knives, the ones with the phosphor bronze coated edge?(I think that's what it is anyway).

Are they any good? And if they are why dont we see folders etc using the same edge coating.

I don't think I'd want one, as I like sharpening knives, but I'm sure there might be a good use for it on some knives and not just those for the kitchen.

I'll try and find some info on them if anyone is interested.

Most "never-sharpen" kitchen knives simply have such a deep, aggressive serration pattern that they will rip through stuff forever. I'm not familiar with the phosphor bronze, do you have a link to an online site where I could read a little about it? Thanks.

Buck was coating some of their blades a couple of years back with a gold colored nitride coating. They also had a black colored nitride treatment. I think it was supposed to be about the same stuff used on drill bits and cobalt or carbide inserts. I guess it didn't take off too well, Because I don't see them anymore in the stores. I'm sure someone else here could chime in and explain it better than me.

Buck still makes the ion fusion coated knives. They were not in their new catalog, so I asked about it. They will still coat blades with the nitrite coating. They sold well in the stores and I have heard that they perform extremely well. One of our customers took it to hunting camp and they cleaned 8 deer with out stropping it. After the 8th they stropped it and cleaned 2 more.

Used them at Burger Crap for 14 months... the manager hated me... Took the 204 and touched up the edge every weekend as it would berely cut plastic.
