Well, I never thought I would be posting on this particular forum (CRK subforum). I just scored my very first CRK from a gentleman on here in a trade. Its a large sebenza classic born 3-20-06. Words cant really explain the excitement I am feeling because for years I have sought after a CRK. Just wanted to so hi and you will probably be seeing more of my posts around this area in the future. Thanks!!

Thank you and yes I will have lots of pics. Some may not agree with what I will be doing with this knife or at least say it is ill advised...but my wife and I are leaving the country for Kenya/Uganda to work for 1 year with some missionaries. I am a first responder and I will be doing quite a bit of basic medical care over there. I wanted to to take a knife that didnt look "RAMBO" but still had the strength and capability to hold up for that time. It is completely legal to take knives and carry them over there as well, the only problem is theft so I am going to have to be very watchful of this blade. I was wondering if I would be able to make this happen since we are leaving Sept. 25th and I still didnt have the funds. Im thankful that someone traded with me to get this knife. :)

Based upon where your CRK will reside, you'll probably be more challenged in retaining ownership than you faced with first obtaining ownership. That said, perhaps it wouldn't be such a bad idea to tether the knife to yourself with a lanyard. You can use an extra long lanyard and make it appear as though it's integral with your trousers and use that as a means to deny lending it to anyone.

Hope you get to enjoy your new CRK for a long time, be safe in your travels.

Glad you were able to get your self a sebenza. I'm sure it will treat you well when you go to Kenya. If I were you I would never let anyone else use that baby and keep it on me at all times. Be safe bud and send us lots of pics!

You are going to love that knife my friend and as already mention don't lend it to anyone and it will be fine. I think the people you will be dealing with are far more apt to worry about where their next meal is coming from rather than your knife.

Absolutely. I think that lanyard idea will work great. I am going to put some more thought to that one. It should be here on Saturday and that will be the first time in my life Ive ever held one. The anticipation is almost too great. Haha. I will take some cool pics of it in Africa for sure. Thanks for all the welcome here guys!

Congratulations on your Sebenza. It will be a fine companion and serve you well.

I am looking forward to seeing your pictures and hearing from you on this forum while you are serving in Africa. Good luck to you. :)

Thanks sir! I do have a question, from the pics it seems that my classic 2000 has a blue thumb stud but no lanyard spacer. I think a blue one would really top off the knife. Is that something I can do aftermarket?

Call CRK or email them Monday. I'm sure you'll have yourself the blue spacer before you head to Africa:thumbup:

Are you talking about the spacer or the lanyard pin? Sorry, not that one is harder to get than the other, just clarifying.

You know, Im not sure...Ive never had a CRK, it the blue tube thing at the end that the lanyard goes around.

That'll be the lanyard pin. There's also a blue spacer down towards the bottom of the knife(some are blue, some are silver).

Just double checking so CRK doesn't end up sending you the wrong thing when you call to get it:D the lanyard goes through it by the way and is handy as can be:thumbup:

While your at it, might aswell get a cool lanyard from them with a titanium bead. They'll send it attached to the pin. All you have to do is take the knife apart, put the lanyard pin in, put the knife together again and you'll have a nice addition to your Sebenza.

Be sure you don't accidently try to carry on your knife.

About 5 years ago I spent a short time doing missions in Uganda and thought I had put my nice benchmade griptilian in my suitcase but actually forgot it was in my carry-on. Those soldiers at Kampala airport didn't appreciate me trying to pass a knife through and I feared I was going to be jailed...but fortunately I persuaded them to just keep the knife and let me catch my flight back to the USA. Lost a good knife though! That would hurt even more with a sebenza.

Have a great trip and congrats on the new blade. They really are special knives.

Yeah, I will be very careful when I pack it in the checked bag. Ive been over there a few times and have packed a few folders in my checked bag and everything was ok. Thanks for the wishes, my wife and I are really excited to go and I look forward to using this knife all year. I want to save up while Im there so I can buy another one when I get home. :-)
