I think I really want to get a mora but I can't get passed the plastic handles.... I know the classic model has a wooden handle, but does mora make any others with wooden handles?

Mora has made a ton of various wooden handles over the decades.
Sometimes it can be difficult to find a dealer for the present line-up.
They have some models in Bubingawood, but I don't know who might have them in stock.

My advice would be to make Your own handle, maybe something like this:

Dude..

Did you make the one with the brass stacked handle??? It looks great!

Nothing wrong with the plastic handles, infact they inspire people to have a go at rehandling them without the fear of wrecking something expensive! Pick the blade you like, split off the handle with an axe and get to work!

Yes I made that with the help of parts from other knives.
It started out as a Mora Bushcraft Force and I riveted a forkscrew to the tang and used leftover stacked leather from a Fällkniven NL5.
The pommel & spacers comes from a worn-out and very rusty old knife.
The guard and front spacers + sheath are made new.
In this way the old knife lives on in the new one.

Meh, Im lazy so I just bought a classic #1. I think I an just going to carve some rings in the handle. I am kind of excited because I paid like $12. If i like it I will get a several more to trade when I go to zimbabwe this June

OK so I gave in and I also bought a Mora companion heavy duty. How can I go wrong at $15? I am really excited and I can't wait to put a cool mustard patina on the classic. The only thing I am not looking forward to with the classic is the sheath. It looks really crappy. What I really like about these is that they look harmless and won't cause any eyebrows to raise unlike my himalayan imports blades (Which I love and covet over all other cutlery). :-D

Yep, the classic sheaths are pretty basic..

Good thing you can do is cut up some leather (old, ladies handbag or soemthing in the right colour) and stitch it around the cheap plastic one! that way it'll be snug, firm but not look like crap. ;)

Have a look at the Hultafors range too! cheaper than Mora and almost identical! I have the heavy duty model that i rehandled in plumb! great knife once tidied up as the grind is weird. Great plastic sheath on the Hults' though.

I handled it in plumb and brass! :)

Super easy too, simply batton the handle off and drill vertically into some wood. Then glue the tang in, let it dry and shape it!

Samon, I like Your conversion and I agree:
The Hultafors GK edge needs a reprofiling before it will be usable!

I put mine on the beltsander and convexed it.
I didn't make a new handle, but remodeled the existing.
The finish is ugly but the shape is way better.

I also drilled a hole for a pin, to secure the handle.
The tang has a predrilled hole, that is in the center of the O in the "Hultafors " logo on the handle.
So, by drilling the hole into the "O" I hit the hole and could insert the pin.

This is a (bad) pic' of the origjnal Hult' heavy duty grind, think scandi' with an abtuse secondary bevel.. I cleaned mine up with a dremel and sandpaper.

And this is the tang incase anyone is curious.

and next to a Mora companion/clipper..

I have been told the other Hultafors knives have a noraml scandi grind like the Moras. Only the heavy duty is stragne, but it does have a fat blade and amssive handle! really great knfie for £6!
