I already knew that I'd love this knife because I have the 0551 and had a 0550 version 1. I really love the looks of the newer version and how the knife now rides nice and low in my jeans pocket.

I certainly mean no disrespect to Strider and their fans as I'm a huge fan of the SMF (one of my fav EDC's) yet the 0551 and the original 0550 allowed me to feel no regrets in giving my only SnG to my oldest son. For me the 055X series is more comfortable in hand than the SnG and appears to be just as stout. I'm getting a new SMF in the next week so this is no slight on Strider at all.

Can anyone tell me if ZT carbidized the lockface on the Gen 2's?

ZT did a fantastic job on this knife.

I think Jimmer has confirmed at some point that all the ZT framelocks are carbidized

Now that I've found my good light it appears that the lockbar is indeed carbidized on the Gen II as is my 0560 (another great folder) yet my 0551 is not. My 0550 Gen II lockbar disengages very smoothly...is this in part due to it being carbidized?

The blade tang on the 0550 Gen II appears to be carbidized as well...I know VERY little of the process and its benefits other than it's suppose to prevent the lockbar from wearing down as quickly as it would without then the carbonizing.
