Own: (mostly Spyderco)
Black PE Dodo, handle predisposed to saber grip and the lock is hard to disengage for my stubby thumb, otherwise I love the ergos of the blade and handle.
Black PE G-10 Navigator - great thin knife, my current EDC, hot spots on handle but I like it and use it for almost everything.
Micarta Calypso Jr SE - nice knife. Great ergos. But I hate sharpening serrated edges.
Lil' Temperance PE - almost perfect... but far too heavy and a bit on the expensive side for EDC. Plus it's huge ;).
superknife POS. My old scout knife. Leafspring lock is quite dead... not to mention it sucked in the first place.

Any recommndations that fit-
---Decently strong lock (duh?) that doesn't require my fingers to be thin and pointy to disengage it.
---easily opened one hand (flickable a la Axis?) - non-auto/assisted only. Waved is certainly an option.
---Blade ~3.5 inches or less and must be semi-thick (up to about 3/16")
---Handle must fit sizeable hands well and not have any "hot spots" - should fit all four basic grips..
---Blade easy enough to sharpen but holds edge well, no strong recurves and such. Wharncliffe or a robust drop point would be great.

And yes, I have several SAK's and decently good multi-tools. Just want a versatile semi-small locking folder. Fixed blades are out of the question pretty much...

The Cold Steel Voyager sounds like what the doctor ordered. They catch a lot of heat here from 400$ folder owners (e.g. Chris Reeve Sebenza), but the other half of the people here (including me) love them. Carried mine for 2 years, no problems. It holds great in all positions.

I hate linerlocks and framelocks, they're either too easily disengagable or they have the opposite problem and jam closed (like on the CRKT models). My roomate's got a S&W that is perfect, but I still try not to buy them as a rule. But you might be ok in a more quality model, some of which I mention below.

My tanto is great to sharpen. Basically two straight edges, really easy to get right.
If you like assisted opening, check out the Camillus line of HEAT folders. Also, their EDC (now available in 154CM and Talonite) should fit the bill well enough. I don't like the tip-down, gaudy clip but other than that it's a nice knife.
Also check out Kershaw, they're often linerlocks, but they turn out a nice product.

You've got a lot of options, pick what you like!

You really don't have to spend any more than 50-75$ to get a quality folder.

Yup, a CS Voyager was kind of my thought too. I might check out
 Spydie Endura or Delica :D.

This is one of the most important rules to buying a knife. Do this with every purchase, and your collection will be a lot of fun. You don't need to spend 150 bucks to be happy with your knife purchase either. Go to the local knife shops, the Walmart or Target, to handle whatever you're looking for. Hunt for the best price around, impulse buys are great, but not even the BF members on here that are rich do that (or so I suppose). Research your buy, use others reviews BUT BUY WHAT YOU LIKE! Remember, take into account resale value. That Manix may go quickly now if you don't like it, but that Sebenza and Strider should always retain their value. Spyderco and Benchmade retain their value better than other production lines etc etc etc. I'm only 26, and I've gone half asssed on knife purchases, and now have a lot that I don't use and want to get rid of. Look at your needs, and fill those needs. If you can afford to get a safe queen, do that. I've made a list of all the uses I will come across, and set aside a knife for each particular purpose. I'll step off the box in a minute, but remember this. Make you happy, and you don't have to pay through the nose for the knife that you want.

Wait, it gets better. There will always be a better price, pay the price you are comfortable with paying. Something I learned the hard way...

A small spearpoint Buck/Strider may bear looking at. It has the thick blade you desire, and it has good lockup with the thick titanium liners. Blade is ATS-34 heat treated by Paul Bos, and that blade is 3.0" long. It may sound short and small but it is an absolute BULLDOG in action!!

what about BM940?
since i baught one 4 months ago, seems i just discover the perfect EDC !
BM940 is around 120 usd over the net.

Not a bad choice. They have been discontinued so now is a good time to get one.

Doug Ritter Grip! :) Not sure about the grip, try and handle a regular griptillian by Benhcmade and if you like the handle the Ritter Grip offers a better blade in my opinion.

Have you held a Stretch. I will EDC one when I can find one at a good price. There are alway the Military, Paramilitary and Police models.

It is hard to beat the Police and Stretch for blade per unit size per dollar IMO.

Manix. come on guys. I can't believe I have to be the first one to recommend it here.

If senoBDEC thinks the lil T is too bulky, the Manix is probably out of the running.

Exactly...That would be the one that I'd choose.

Anyway... been looking through, got to handle a normal Mini-Grip (no large ones) it's okay - pretty darn decent ergos.

So far: the Buck/Strider Spearpoint is
this one right here?? And the one talked about is the Mini Strider right? If anyone's willing to trade one of these LNIB for some cash and stuff :D....
As to the SERE 2000, I've considered it and may try and get one here on the forums sometime. At the moment though, a bit heavy for EDC (in the city).
Haven't considered the Stretch, but then again, I'd like to try non-Spyderco folders first. I'll see if a local store carries them... nope, in Berkeley... maybe next time I visit my cousin over at UCB. I dunno... the Dodo is great for me. Doubt I'd need much more than an Endura/Delica from Spyderco for a while (until the new models are out).

Yeah, the Manix is probably just a "touch" too big :D. I like weight, but not that heavy....I mean... half a pound is IMO pretty substantial for a folder.

I mean... I do carry two Spydies already (soon to be three). shouldn't I get at least one non-Spydie?

A question... what was the first gen of the Buck 881 SP PE made of (blade steel)?

SERE 2000 is a little heavy. My CS Voyager rides comfortably at about 4.5oz, but I wouldn't go much higher than that.

That's the Buck Strider alright. You can find it for a LOT cheaper though. It'll serve you well. I've considered it for my next EDC.

The search function goes in and out, it's not your browser.

I did a really big post here that could help you with your search, too. Almost the same thread.

Good luck

Gets my vote too, I bought one as my first good knife, and like it a lot. It rotates daily with my 806d2 as my EDC.
