Haven't posted on here in a while. I started purchasing knives back in 2002. I've gone through several phases in my collection, but back in those days lots of time was spent discussing the virtues of knives based on member experience.

Often stories and photos were exchanged.

Flash-forward to 2009, and not only have my tastes changed, but I find that YOUTUBE has become a fascinating place for knife consumers. My own tastes have become less extravagant, and leaning more towards users that truly deliver bang for buck value. With the advent of youtube, websites like knifetests.com allows the consumer to make far more informed choices than ever before, considering the visual impact of the tests.

Yes, many of the tests on knifetests.com is frankly abuse, but knowing how far a knife can go serves to inform the consumer on the product they're interested in.

I haven't purchased a blade since 2005. So, I ring in the new year with these 4 babies that I've yet to receive, but am already excited about:

- Buck Nighthawk

- Rat Cutlery RC-4

- Ontario Rat 7

- Crowell/Barker Comp. Bowie

I have a varied collection that includes Sebenza's, custom Bagwells, Randalls, and Busse's. I must say, considering how pricey my tastes can be, I'm very excited to have purchased 4 durable blades for under $400.

Nothing interested me at the time. I was very happy with my knives, at least from my perspective back then. That's how I was able to hold out. :D

Things changed recently. My grip got stronger with kettlebell work, so the kind of knives I used to like (i.e. ones with ergo grips) didn't really suit me the way they used to. So I looked to expand my collection with knives that I could seriously GRIP.

My CR knives: a wood inlay large sebbie (I believe it's cocobolo, but not sure), and 2 mnandis (1 blackwood, one I also forget, that's how long it's been!). LOVE the mnandis; those are "the little knives that could." The sebbie...dangit, that's my new favorite folder. And I say "dangit" because I'm eyeing the large micarta sebbie, and it's out of the budget for now.

Plus I also say "dangit" because I know, regardless of budget, I'm gonna get it. :(

BTW: Your new purchases are SWEET!! That Buck 110, in particular, just never goes out of style.

3 years, WOW!! My latest purchase was a Victorinox that was on sale for $14. It is a red Super Tinker. So far so good! Btw, the Browning knife you have ordered is a great knife with great fit/finish and excellent build.

I haven't even visited this forum hardly ever during those years. I'd pop in every now and then, but I just now realized how out of the loop I've been.

- Last time I purchased a knife...Ratweillers and Rat Daddy's were still available and selling like hotcakes. To my surprise, it's hard to even lay eyes on them now, let alone purchase them. What a shame. :(

- I STILL remember when Camillus Fisk Bowies were just the hottest thing that ever hit the bowie market. Thank God I got my fair share of those (4 of them to be precise), so I'm not completely bummed that they're no longer being offered...let alone that Camillus is no longer around.

- Also, last time I checked...the Busse FBM was just a pipe dream. I remember saving a photo of the prototype on my computer back then. Now, the FBM is everywhere.

- At least people still debate Sebenza/Strider SnG. Glad some things don't change. :)

Nice super tinker you have there. My leatherman is part of my proud collection.

I'm very excited about the Crowell/Barker knife. I kept a close eye on "competition" knives, because I think that kind of "hybrid" blade would suit my needs greatly.

i know what you mean about the sebbies and mnandis. gotta love them!

i had a large then a small, then a large then a small again. after that, i bought two mnandis. i loved them all, but was most surprised of the mnandi. it is small and elegant, yet it still feels substantial. great little knife.

enjoy the micarta sebbie when you get it, i've had a couple. :)
