Hi good folks in the CRK forums,

My first post here but been lurking for years. I finally completed my CRK collection today with the addition of the Large Sebenza 21, in addition to Umnumzaan and Large Inkosi. I guess it's only the beginning of the sickness since i'm planning on getting Lg Inkosi and Umnumzaan tanto in the upcoming holiday.

I have a question hope you guys can help me with. Being used to the large ceramic ball of the Umnum and Inkosi, i was very surprised(not in the pleasant way) that the detent is for the Sebenza is so light, almost non-existance compared to the other models. Is it normal for the Sebenza detent to be much lighter than Inkosi/Umnumzaan?

I took the knife apart to clean it and to switch the lube, and i find that the detent ball is sunk very deep in the lockbar and only about 1/3 or 1/4 is exposed. Is this normal?

I bought this from a legit dealer, and the knife looks legit in general. Mine is produced in February 2019 and i have the newer version where the lanyard pin that stays in place even when the lanyard is removed.

Thanks in advance for the advise.

The 21 detent ball is sunk almost all the way into the lock bar.

Can you shake out the blade? If you can, that is abnormal. Other things are subjective.

So this is a pet peeve of mine, light detent. I don't like them. Though within the last few years it seems as if the CRK factory has stepped up their game in the detent field. The last 4 or 5 Sebs I've gotten have had perfect detent retention. A few actually being very strong. Not sure what date yours was made, but it should have a substantial detent to it holding the blade closed. You should not be able to shake it open at all. I am looking forward to my new 31 with the interface ceramic. You may want to send yours in for an adjustment if it bothers you. Me, yes, it would.

For whatever opinion mine is worth:

When I received my Umnumzaans, the detent was initially quite heavy. By comparison to that, my 21’s are lighter. That being said, they’re not even close to what I consider too light.

If it bothers you, return it or send it to Boise.

The same being here this is just my opinion and as others ^^^ have stated by comparison my Umnumzaan and Inkosi’s are a heavier detent. I also keep my pivot adjusted fairly snug. I just went and checked all of my Sebenzas to see if I could shake the blade open. Not one of them budged. I have other brand knives that will shake open with very little effort. I would consider the detent on CRK’s just right. None of my seb’s are 2019 tho. And as stated above, if it bothers you send it to Idaho and let them take a gander at it.

The detent on my sebenzas are very strong. Not as strong as the Inkosi but among the strongest compared to any other knife. I would return.

Thanks for the help all, decided to send it in. Can't get over the light detent. I was able to shake out the blade with moderate force. Impossible to do that with Inkosi or Umnumzaan with the same amount or much harder force.
