Just wanted to give buck a !

Most of my bucks have been the older more traditional knives (112, 110, 119, 500 series etc) But I've really grown to love the bucklite max and vantage series knives. I couldn't seem to find a knife to kick the large bucklite max out of my pocket, even more expensive knives with "better steel". That changed when I finally tried a vantage last year, really high value knife with a great design!

So when I bought a new stockman knife last week I went with the 301. I was hesitant because I bought one years ago and returned it because of week springs and loose blades...but something about the simple, rugged look of the 301 lured me in again! I'm glad it did, I got it yesterday and it is near perfect, tight blades, good snap and great fit and finish! Now if they would only make a 301 with sandvic steel and flat ground blades....:D

I love the 300 series for their simplicity and ruggedness. We talked a while back about a custom shop option for these, but they are currently deemed "value" knives, not worthy of the custom shop treatment. Hopefully that will change.

I carry both the 301 or 303 and my Vantage at the same time.

I usually carry the vantage paired with a victorinox climber or huntsman. I find to many uses for the SAK to not carry it, same with the vantage...I may just have to carry all three :)

I'd love to see a custom 301 mostly for a steel upgrade, though I have to say I really would prefer flat ground blades on a knife this size. I've wanted a older camillus made 301 for a while, just a decent used one so I could bring myself to actually carry it! I'd think that buck could sell quite a few flat ground 301 and 303's with a nice mid grade stainless or some good ole 1095!

I just bought a 301, the one with the dymondwood. My first stockman, since I don't buy too many traditionals (but when I do, I choose Buck). I have no idea what to expect, but I wanted a quality pocket knife that I could carry when a clip was inconvenient.

I quit carrying traditionals for quite a while, but I always thought the stockman was a very useful, versatile knife, its still my favorite pattern of traditional slipjoint. I think the thing I like about buck is that (in my opinion) you get your moneys worth and then some. There are fancier knives but for a knife that will be used as a tool, function over form leads to a beauty of its own :)

There are some of use that would easily drop a higher price for a custom shop 300 series knife. After all the 110 is kind of a value knife also.

You are so right kyhunt! I would gladly order a custom shop 301. I would really like to see flat ground with the long pull come back.

Just so you know, I started the thread about custom shop 300s. Here is the thread.

Here's 300 Bucks' quote on the matter:
"In discussions of the past at knife shows, etc. the custom shop reasoning has always been to have only enough models as it can handle as it is a special work area. Also the higher end knives such as 500s are considered more special than the 300s, which are considered everyday knives."

It's a good series, and the 301 in particular, is a real utilitarian slipjoint, made with use first, and foremost in mind. I can't wait to pick up a brass/rosewood, 300 of some sort.
