Hey all! hope your all fine. This week I received a new Buck 303 slipjoint. I have never been a big fan of slipjoints but this one caught my eye, that and I got it new for $15.00. The guy who sold it to me said it was a factory blemish from Buck because it had a badge on both outer scales. I was wondering if that is correct. I took a photo of both sides. It's been in my pocket for a couple of days now and is getting a ton of use. I am surprised how comfortable I am with using it. The 3 different blade configs give a nice array of chores this little knife can handle. Well thats all. I am going to be a bit more open minded when I see slippies for sale in the exchange from now on! Be well!!! ~kevin~

I have never seen another 303, or any other slippie for that matter, with the logo badge on both sides, so it is certainly unusual; I suppose you could call it a "factory blem." The expert, 300Bucks, is on the road to Post Falls, so I'm not sure if he'll be around to fill in more on this in the near future. Considering the unusualness (is that a word) of this knife, you might want to put this one aside as a "collector" and get you another user, or I'm sure either 300Bucks or myself would send you a correct one in exchange for the one you have. Yep, those slippies, and especially the 303's, are great EDC's.

...Quite an unusual piece...It seems the shield is indeed on the correct side no mater which side you look at though. Looks like they used the same bolster/liner for both sides of the knife...Oops...Neat...

Yep, looks like mark side liners and handes on both sides.

That just screams "lunchbox/parts knife". :D

That is very neat. Instead of one from column A and one from column B you got two from column A. I bet someone wasn’t paying attention and once it was together well what the heck.

I'm Back, and boy is it hot in the Ozarks.........DON"T carry it, it slipped by inspection. Keep it or sell it to a deserving collector who will be forever in your debt. Will or Tinsue is my noble reply. Seriously, it is a factory slip-up and is collectable. Buy another from Walmart.........Buck as one of it's acts of care, provides missionaries in the outlands with pocketknives made up of end runs of parts, seconds , etc. These missionary knives are not to be on market, the ones I have seen have a notch ground in one of the bolsters to mark them as misson field knives and some have had two front, shield scales. They still work like a regular Buck for poor folks with no knife at all.........300Bucks

I second, third, or fourth that advice. Put it away with its box and paperwork and get another. Interesting knife.

Thanks for the kind advice regarding the 303. It's a bit late as I have had it in my pocket going on three weeks now. Oh it's still unharmed and in excellent condition, but I have become mighty used to having it with me. I am Trying to find a nice 317 now... Be well all!!! ~baba~

I am really into Buck slip joints. I like’m all but one. I have to say, I don’t get the 317. It’s as big as a 110 but it doesn’t lock. I don’t think I would trust this knife to do any of the jobs I want a large knife for. The second blade means you will not have a solid grip on the knife. I know it is a traditional design and all but for a Hunter I would want a 110 over a 317.
One of the reasons I got into collecting 300s was the cost. Collecting slippies fits my budget better than collecting 532s with exotic handles. I just wish I could afford all the 532s I’ve ever seen but no. I can’t. This brings me to the real wine that goes with this cheese tray. Why are 317s so dammed expensive? Any self respecting 300 collection needs at least three of them, 1st Cami, 2nd Cami & serrated. That’s not a long list I’ll grant you but I do get a little fidgety about spending the kind of money these three will require for three big clunky knives that I will never carry. All my other slippies are beautifully usable. My one and only 317 (it has a broken tip so I got it for cheap) won’t even fit in the sackup that I keep them all in. It is the odd man out.

Will, As I have said to you before, the only reason I can figure is they look good with black cycle leathers. The rest of your reasoning is valid. But I only need one more to have the factory issue set of five.......so the hunt continues......I would never edc one, would rather have a sheath knife.............300Bucks
