My local outdoorsy-type shop was having a sale on backpacks, and this one caught my eye today, so I bought it. It's a smaller Cordura backpack that seems well suited for weekend camping trips. It's a 32L, 54 x 34 x 20 cm, with lots of MOLLE expansion options. I'm thinking I could probably increase capacity for enough load-out for a week (summer/warm-weather trip.) I guess I'll find out sooner or later. I certainly see it as an awesome hiking pack: inverted V-frame, adjustable ladder load system, and space for a water bladder hydration set-up.

Before today, I've never heard of the "Tasmanian Tiger" brand. This one's called the "TT Patrol Pack." Anyone else have one of their packs?

The suspension and mesh on the back looks very much like a mil version of what Deuter uses on their Civ. line of packs.

Well, I did a little 'urban carry' with my new pack. I did a little hike downtown: bought a few things at the hardware store, a few groceries, picked up an 8-pack of tall cans, some wine and a bottle of hootch, and did some window-shopping. When all was said and done, I probably carried 40lbs or so for a few klicks by the time I made it back to my shack. I must say, I found the rigging/suspension very comfortable and was impressed by the mesh venting.

A few more pics...

Kind of a cool little add-on feature: the chest-belt buckle has a built in whistle.

That whistle is kind of neat. That's where I keep my clipper compass.

I've never heard of the brand, but it looks well-made... beat on it a while and let us know how it does. ;)

Tasmanian Tiger (http://www.tasmaniantiger.info/EN/index.htm) is the military branch of the german company tatonka (http://www.tatonka.com/en/index.aspx), which produces top notch civilian gear. They combine their outdoor knowhow with military demands and work together with units of the german army. Especially with backpacks it is good to have some of the modern civillian innovations applied to military gear. Tasmanian Tiger produces in the same plant as Tatonka in Vietnam, but production is up to a very high standard. Especially the longrange packs (pathfinder & range pack) are popular with german soldiers, and they also do some multicam gear as well.

As apdb90 mentioned Deuter, they have a military cooperation too. The devellopped 3 packs together with Tacgear. Sorry, links in german only, but have a look at the pics:

i have just ha a look at the link to the tasmanian tiger web site, not so much at what they sell but where they are. i had a little laugh to my self when i read the history section they give lots of infomation about the Tasmanian tiger and even make a comment that it is also known as the "tasmanian wolf". i have lived in Tasmanis all my life and have to admit i have never herd it called this, the most common name used other than Tasmanin tiger is "Thylacine".
But what would i know i only live in it's home state.
