Now that we have the honking hogging 4 pounder down…
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v453/taigoo/TAI Hammers/

Here’s the new “TAI” 3lb long nosed cross peen prototype,... co-engineered, custom machined and heat treated by Mr. Nathan Carothers, (AKA Nathan The Machinist).

It’s 4150, and 5.5 inches face to face.

I haven’t tried it out yet, but it looks and feels good so far. After I finish up a few things that are on the bench, I’ll give it swing.

Thanks Nathan!

Your killing me Tai, Looks like I am going to have to add to the collection when you get the production run. Put me down for one. That thing looks really sweet.

Nice hammer, it looks a bit like my old champion crosspeen. One of my favorite hammers, Id love to have a 3-4 pounder like it..

Ita, I like the looks of this hammer head. Looking forward to hear what you think about it after you get to try it out.

WOW!
It looks great!
I'm just wondering about mass distribution: perhaps it's because I'm not much expert, and I forge when I can, often with months between a session and another, so my hammer control is not what I'd like...
Well, not anybody would like :p:D
Point is, I find easier to forge with a hammer which has most of its weight in the "hitting" side of the hammer.
I have a 2 pounder ball-peen with a very big flat part and small peen, so the weight is all on the flat part, which I use often. I find hitting correctly with that hammer easier, and I believe a doghead hammer, like those used by japanese swordsmiths could be even better.
In the picture above, the peen seems to have much more mass than the flat head.
Is this my impression?
Wouldn't it cause me some problem hittin square with the flat face?
On the other hand, it would be a great hammer for drawing...
Is my problem a common one (at least among rookies) or am I alone in this?

Have gotten Tai's video? He shows the big brother of this hammer in that, as well as
in some other threads here since the big brother is now for sale.

It is primarily a drawing hammer. Watch how he uses it.

I'm planning to get one of these: the 4lb big brother (actually the full sized one) is just
too much for me.

I have the big brother to this and it works great. It can be a bit heavy if you have to hammer for a long period of time. I am anxious to try on the the 3lb units. Let us know haw it works.
