I saw what appears to be a be a new 123 TV. lithium battery today in my wanderings. It was marked Energizer although I did not see "Eveready" anywhere visible through the package, and the color scheme was different. Nothing on the package indicated that it was anything other than a standard 3v. lithium, but it was almost twice the price of the Duracell sitting right beside it. (!?!)

Anyone played with these? Are they any different? or just more expensive?

Mike,
Was it the e2 version of the 123? I got in a bunch of the Energizer's for a song that say e2- signifying that they are the new titanium batteries Energizer is touting, but if you look at the battery, it's plain ol' lithium with a snazzy new blue/silver label.

Perhaps the clerk with the pricing gun got a little trigger happy after pricing the two-packs.

It's a marketing gimmick..These "E2" batteries are the same as Energizer's standard 123-style batteries. HOWEVER, the new Energizer Titanium batteries (In standard sizes) lasted 40% longer in a test conducted by a local TV station's consumer reporter...interesting...

I will have to take a nother look. I didn't see an e2 anywhere but I wasn't looking either. The Blue and Silver is right.

Tim,

I finally had to but new batteries in my three cell Stylus!

Eveready makes 2 different kinds of the e2 battery. One is an alkaline (using the titanium technology), the other is a lithium battery that to my knowledge is not a significant improvement over a standard lithium cell (look for Duracell Ultra vs. standard Duracell run times on the boards or at www.candlepowerforums.com). The e2 alkalines are supposed to be an improvement depending on your application. On some of the Palm (Pilot) message boards, the e2 alkaline (AAA) did not provide much longer run times. Digital cameras, having a very high current demand will drain alkaline-type batteries in about 10-15 minutes of heavy use. Lithium batteries will last longer, but the cost/run time ratio is still bad. The discharge characteristics of rechargeables is preferred for digital cameras. Anyway, back to topic; I assume that your interest is for use in Surefire 6V or 9V light. While I've used Energizers without any problems, Duracells are recommended for their higher temperature thermal limiting circuitry. I don't use my Surefire or Scorpion for extended periods, so I probably won't run into problems with thremal shutdown, but if you're using the light for self defence purposes, why take the chance? (I am not accusing you of being lax in your self defence decisions)

While on the topic of batteries, did you know that Costco's house brand, Kirkland, is made by Duracell? They are significantly less expensive than Duracells, even when the Duracells are bought at Costco.

Yea David,

If you put those graphics on a 123 3v. that is it! If I had seen that battery in a AA or AAA It would have taken more notice of it. On a 123 lithium it didn't appear any different from the standard Duracell.

If you click on "Performance" at the top you'll see a small picture of the EL123. http://data.energizer.com shows specs for 3V and 1300m-1400Ah capacity. I don't remember the specs for their original 123 lithium battery. Maybe 1350.
