New 42s worse Quality?

I just got my 2nd set of BM-42s, one 42S, and One 42. I was very disappointed in the quality. I sent one from my 1st batch back to BM for repair, and both of the new ones came in much worse than my 1st set.

One will not close W/O LOTS of pressure. It's WAY off. The other knife the pin has been smashed so much to tighten it, the pin is very mushroomed and has sharp edges which already are deforming when closing. It will continue to loosen up.

I am amazed they sold these knives as firsts! You can tell both were reworked at the factory to "fit" them, and they are still unacceptable IMHO.

FYI the Torx screw head size on the 2nd set of knives is smaller. Old was a #10 new is #8 (may be a #9, but the BM set skips the #9)

Are they hoping the popularity is such that people will keep them and "live" with a sub standard knife?

I called 1SKS and they assured me they are not knowingly shipping seconds. So it must be BM allowing this level to be considered acceptable.

Now that 1SKS has finished shipping the last "wave" of BM-42s how many got poor quality? The guy at 1SKS said he was getting a 5% return rate vs. a 1% for other models.

What's going on? I'm Bummed big time.

I got a new one last weekend. It was stiff out of the box. I've been noticing that a lot. I just used my trusty T-8 driver to loosen the screws way up, heated it gently with my hairdryer, applyed Militec-1, worked it through, tightened the screws, just enough, allowed it to set for a few hours, wiped of the excess Militec, and it was great from there. A fine first-quality knife. (Oh, and sometimes people think I get specially selected pieces because sometimes the factory knows where the knife is going. But, I bought this one off a table at a gun show, so it was not specially prepared for me.)

Well, the 42 that I just got is obviously a new one as I just got it from 1sks's last shipment. It came tight out of the box, just the way I like it. The only thing I found wrong was a very small cosmetic molding imperfection which looks like a tiny speck of dirt. Other than that, Its basically perfect in any way. No misdrilled holes, misaligned washers, bad pins, or odd latches. It also came as sharp if not sharper than CRKT's.

I received a new 42 today. It came from a mail-order dealer and so I'm sure that it was not specially prepared for me. It's perfect. The joints are adjusted just right. The screws and pins are perfect. No casting imperfections visible. It' very nice. What I will say that you really to have to squeeze this baby to lock it open, but that will deteriorate as the tang pin and the pockets wear in (besided, I think this is the one that I'm gonna chop off one of these days). And as for sharpness... well... this thing shaved the back of my arm clean in one pass. (And darn it too, that just grew back from when I demonstrated how sharp I had gotten a military surplus bayonet.) So, I don't see any deterioration of quality.
