While browsing a market recently I came across a stall with lots of outdoorsy stuff, Para-cord etc. The little folding saws caught my eye ( I think TOPS Knives include them with their kits ), costing nearly $2 I wasn't sure whether to get one or not but Mrs Pit treated me !

I figured that these would be good for making easily lit wood dust and also for notching when working on traps.......the guy who ran the stall said they also cut steel etc which is good to know.

Found a link to info about the saws~

It made a little pile of dust in next to no time!

I'd forgot just how quick the dust burned when lit so I eventually had to make some small secondary tinder so it would burn long enough to get a pick~

Of course you can scrape the wood with your knife to make dust but this is pretty hard on the edge. Obviously small curls from a knife will also light up but not as easily as with the dust.

I should mention that even the dust is poor compared to some other natural tinders. As I continued my walk I noticed all the old mans beard, right near the old mans beard was a tree dripping with resin.
So.........

Lights up straight away and burns with a large hot flame, this stuff is actually very hard to put back out !

Snicker will never learn this bushcrafting, she is too easily distracted !

On the way back Maisy decided to cool down in her favorite way....

I've been seeing those lately and I like the looks of them. Bought a saber saw blade last night to try and make my own.

I use a smaller kit almost every day. Usually it's just a bandaid or some duct tape, but it does get used.

Know of anywhere you can buy these (or similar saws) in single quantities? I don't really need 40... :)
