I went into a pawn shop that I'd relieved of a few knives today for the first time in a year and found one of these. The blade has a few pits but is in relatively good shape for having been used to peel potatoes. At least that's the story I was given.

I found this at a flea market last week. A 500 Duke with Red Micarta handles.

That is a high class veggi peeler if ever there was one. I keep this dream in the back of my mind that I'm gonna discover an expensive box of such peelers and have myself some fancy steak knives one day. The 500 is a beauty with the Micarta. Can we all be certain as to the make up of the bolsters (SS)?

BTW, how did you get a photo of my back yard as a screen saver? :)

Mitch, Thats a cira 1976 Scout 107. Did you get the sheath with it? The Duke will have a stainless frame and the burgandy micarta is what it originally came out with in 1978 or 79. Both nice finds. DM

Yes I did get the sheath with it but I thought it looked like a cheap China knife I've seen before. Glad I looked anyway. The sheath is blank on the front and has "BUCK 107" stamped on the back below the belt loop. It has no keeper as the knife goes in to the point where there is only about 1 inch sticking out.

That all sounds correct. That was the first drop in pouch sheath Buck made. Buck had already been making that pattern since 1971 but it was not named that nor came with a sheath. I got mine the year they 1st came out and carried it thru my college years. Here it is pictured with a 103. DM

Plumber, Your well done photo caused me to look up my photo too. The Scout sported a 4" blade same as the 102 and 103. Even though it looks diminutive, it handled all the cutting chores I threw at it. DM

Here is it's original form as the 'paring' knife in the Empress Trio Set. These are circa 1972 or 73. DM

Notice the stamp is on the right hand side of these early models. Later that changed. DM

Mine looks just like the one in Plumber's photo and I know it's an early 1976. So, Buck may have changed the sheath later. DM
