Did they make one? Astronaut model or something?
I recall as a kid seeing one in a hardware store...the sheath was not metal-tipped and the blade/guard/pommel was very shiny. The stacked leather handle also appeared varnished. Any info on this variant would be appreciated.

i saw it sold by smokey mountain knife works back in the eighties, never bought on, think it was the camillus model.

Yes, they produced models(AFSK and F-U Knives) in a plated finish. These were discoutinued about 10 years back. The F-U was offered under their "Sword Brand" premium line. Keep checking Ebay:).

Ah, that explains it. Thanks Bob.
I once had a KaBar type (crossed swords etched on polished blade) with the same varnished leather stacked handle. This variant came with a once-piece light brown leather sheath. If not mistaken, the guard was not straight but bent forward/back like the older bowies of the early 70's. Pretty stout knife as I recall...especially in my 10-year old hands...never did snap the point, and quite sure that I tried! :D
