New Air Lite vs Pro Lite

I have a couple of Pro Lites that I like very much, and I am sorry to see it discontinued. It looks like the new Air Lite is similar, but it costs 3-4 times more. I know it has some material upgrades, but I'm wondering if it is worth buying one?

The Pro Lite has been discontinued for a long time, there is just a large stock of them out there and that's why they're sold at around $20, dealers want to get rid of them. This does not mean it is a $20 knife or was intended to be a $20 knife. With that being said...

The Pro Lite and Air Lite are NOTHING alike. The Air Lite is twice the cost of the Pro Lite, not three or four times.
- Pro Lites are a budget knife, plain and simple. Plastic handles, 4116 steel, $49.99. They feel generally pretty cheap but perform pretty considering their materials and price.
- Air Lites are a mid range knife. Beautifully machined G-10, AUS10 which is far better than 4116, $99.99. They feel like a well built solid knife, better than the Broken Skull in my opinion. Quality feels like it compares to the Lawman's and Recon's, etc.

I think people are thinking that because they share the "Lite" name, they're somehow related. It's not an upgraded Pro Lite, it's a brand new knife in both design and manufacturing. The Pro Lite was discontinued to be replaced by the Working Man. The Working Man was discontinued this year so we decided to get away from the Pro Lite/Working Man series entirely. They have similar dimensions because this is the most popular size option, the two most popular blade styles requested, and upgraded materials like everyone always asks for.

In my opinion, it's 4x or 5x better than the Pro Lite. Honest opinion now that I've been EDC'ing it for two weeks out of the month long experiment I'm running.

I have one of the early Pro Lites from Cold Steel, that featured a liner-lock. They were great inexpensive folders. The upgraded 'tri-ad' lock is indeed a step-up. Personally, I would rather pay-a-little-more, to get-a-little-more.

Yes THIS ^. Glad to know that this is the most popular size option. IMO the Prolite has the PERFECT size. Some of the most well known & popular knives are in this size range(7.8" to 8.25" OAL). I think this is one of the reasons why people has been asking for a higher end Prolite including myself, since Cold Steel didn't really have too many options in this size range except the Lawman and maybe the Storm Cloud. Code 4 and Ultimate hunter are slightly too large with 5" handle. I always thought a G-10 Prolite with S35VN steel with all the available blade shapes could be one of your best sellers if CS would make it.

I agree with you that the Air Lite is nothing like the Prolite, and it shouldn't be compared with Prolite at all. I think people kinda drew the similarity based on the similar size as you mentioned, and the overall silhouette i.e. the neutral handle, straight blade, no choil and the slim profile. Other than that, it's apple and orange. Even if the Prolite is $10, I'd still take the Air Lite over the plastic handled non-precision ground blade model(BTW Prolite has the best clip though). Granted, I'm fortunate enough to be able to afford higher premium for extra quality.

While Air Lite is my favorite knife of 2020, I still think it could be improved, by having a thicker handle scale. At least make it Lawman thick, or even better, Prolite thick with a bit of contouring. I also selfishly prefer S35VN steel. Basically I'm just looking for a no-choil Lawman

Looking forward to the day when I can kick the American Lawman off my #1 all time favorite Cold Steel spot.
