My AK Bowie arrived and it is such a beaut. Made by Bura.

The snap on the leather scabbard is a Great Seal of the State of Oklahoma snap :)

Extraordinary. And it fits my hand very well. I can't wait to chop chicken bones with it tonight!

Forget the chicken bones. Drop a tree with that sucker. It'll take a day for the grin to wear off.

i also have a AK Bowie by Bura and i know just how you feel--really is a beauty--and that smile never goes away--lol  :)

Oklahoma and the Nepal people are very close.

Does anyone have a AK Bowie not made by Bura?

Yup. Even though I made the wood model for the AK Bowie I don't have one.;)
Traded mine, the very first one, off for a more to my liking knife.:p :D ;)

Who has made AK bowies besides Bura? Does anyone besides Bura make them today?

I've owned two AK bowies, munk, and both were made by Bura. I've never seen one since i've been hanging around that wasn't made by the B-man. He does good work, but i'd be curious to see what kind of beautiful thing Kumar could churn out, or what kind of monster blade Sher could make.

Me too, on both counts. Kumar would just do a great job. Sher isn't really allowed to make monster blades anylonger, but he does make them hardy.

what is the handle material made out of?

An observation: the snap interferes with unsheathing and resheathing as the blade is wider than the snap and doesn't clear the leather of the snap.

Cog, one thing that i've done to my AK bowie was to cut that d@mn strap off. i mean are you really going to lose a 1.5lb knife out of it's sheath;)? Also, just a word to the wise a lot of times the frog is not tight enough to keep the sheath from falling through the bottom if you put force on it downward. You might need to add something to wedge it a bit.
Another trick i did to mine was to slightly sand down the angles of horn handles. that made the handle magic and perfectly fitted for my hand alone. Congrats on your purchase. Treat it right and the AKB will treat you right for many many days to come.

Just a warning...

Please make darned sure that the frog can hold the Sheath well and tight. I decided to see what the Bowie would look like on a belt and the next thing I know, there was a 2 pound brass tipped harpoon that landed on my left little toe. The pain did not go away for weeks... :grumpy:

My novice solution was to put a small screw through the frog and sheath directly into the sheath wood, making sure it does not come out to the inside of the sheath.

And yes, Bowie=good!

i removed the snap set-up on my sheath as well--works much better without it  :)
