Hey Guys,

Just acquired an item from my must have list. Got a rosewood Alpha Hunter with 154CM. I love the knife but am a bit concerned that the liner lock locks up on the left edge of the blade even if snapped open hard. Is this consistent with the design? I figgered it would lock up more centered. Thanks in advance for your expertise and opinions.

Fritz

PS. Is the frame also 154CM? I wouldnt figger it would be but it appears to be the same type of steel.

It's on my "wish list" too (only I think I'll get one with a stag handle from L. L. Bean), so I don't own one at present. That's kind of disturbing to me as well. Every liner lock I own locks up in the center.

From the photo in front of me right now, it looks like there's a Torx screw in the center of the pivot. Have you tried adjusting that?

Samael,
Thanks for the reply. You are right about the torx at the pivot. Looks like a
T-6. The knife was waiting for me when I got home from work and I only have smaller torx drivers at work. It might work but I'm a little aprehensive because there is a large and small brass washer on either side of the tang and if I tighten the screw and find it tightens the release travel too much, I dont want to try and back it off and find I deformed those washers. I tightened the pivot on my Vantage Pro and it stiffened it noticably. I dont know:confused: whenever I tamper with something I have a talent for making a mess of it.:barf:

I know the feeling all too well.:) Hang in there; maybe somebody here actually has one and can provide some better advice.

Yeah, theres a lot of knowledge on this forum:thumbup:

BTW It is real sharp out of the box(as expected) just cut a slice of buffalo jerky I'm sharing with my little daghter(also a Buck lover:D)

I just checked one of mine and it lines up to the right of center.

Mater,
How much use has yours seen? It looks like I have about 1/32" of tang showing to the left outside of lock(tip up) If it would move another 1/32" over time I would be very confident to use it hard with out worrying about an accidental close.

Imafritz,
The one I checked has never been used. I checked one with 420 that I use and it lines up in center but I don't remember checking it when it was new and it has not seen any hard use. I have a couple more but I can't seem to find them at the moment. I'll keep looking.

I have many, my daughter collects that model. You might can move the over 1/32.
I have the one you speak of and have had the blade in and out of the handle with no problems. Those washers to me look to be copper and I've not damaged them.I've used the knife on deer processing, shaving limb slivers for fire starter,my girl cut a rattler in half w/ one.We haven't noticed any concerns.Use it and enjoy it.DM

Thanks for the info Dave, but just to clarify, do you think I can just adjust that pivot screw or do I have to take the blade out to adjust?

Also, remind me not to mess with your daughter:eek:

Yes, I think you can adjust the pivot screw w/o creating a problem and maybe obtain some movement w/ the locking mechanism toward your liking. On a working farm we use a knife daily.DM

Well I loosened the pivot screw(actually a T-10 torx-I had said it was a T-6
on and earlier post) and the lock up went right to center but allowed slight
blade play and a loose feel on flip out. Tightened and loosed slightly a few times and found a place left of center that I'm ok with and no blade play and hopefully tight enough that the pivot screw doesnt loosen up on its own and fall out. We'll see how it works. Thanks for the input.(I was probably way too stressed about it to begin with:o)

We all want things/adjustments to work espically on something new.Glad it worked out for you. Now,try to enjoy your Buck knife.DM:)

DM,
Well:( maybe didnt work so well afterall. Later that day, I reached in my pocket to find the blade open. The pivot screw was too loose to keep gravity from opening it up. I tightened it back to its original position so it locks of at
the left edge but stays closed when it should. The lock up seems solid and I have to just hope it doesnt move left and fail during use. I really dont see why it would. I'm done worrying.:)
