New AMK kit????

"What you've got here is a multitude of custom-designed survival components that are going to save your bacon if you are lost or stranded in the outdoors." Custom designed. Custom designed... :jerkit:

It looks cool, but my Altoids tin is still more compact (and I've got more stuff in it), and comes nowhere near $60 when everything is added up.

I really like the kit...the case mainly...I'd like to get a couple for the vehicles. Maybe someone will have them cheaper later...$60.00 seems a little steep. Pretty sure it's an import.

But man with that "What you've got here is a multitude of custom-designed survival components that are going to save your bacon if you are lost or stranded in the outdoors." and "fully featured knife" he sure has the "salesman talk" going on doesn't he :)

.

looks like a overpriced fisherprice tool. Could make one for cheaper and that is better, however if you are lazy and have money seems like a ok kit for starters.

I mainly like the case, I think it would be a great piece of kit to add to the wife's emergency kit in the car. Would definitely have to add some things, but since it is a proto I'm betting they aren't through adding things yet.

Ditto. And that thing doesn't look like it would even fit in a pocket. That means you'd be more inclined to leave it back at camp during a dayhike and if something goes wrong, then you will be "SOL".

I like the case, too. But I wouldn't pay $60 for it. But that is MSRP, shouldn't that drop down?

I think what they were trying to accomplish with that case is the fact that you will ALWAYS have a knife, flashlight, whistle, mirror, compass, and a way to start a fire, because there is a PLACE for each of those items on that case.

If there's a place for them, you will NEVER remove them from that kit, and put them in another kit. That means you will always have the most basic items you will need for survival and rescue.

Kind of like the lighter in your car, you use it and put it back into its place and it's always there. In your tin kits, how many times do you rob an item like a fire steel from it and maybe replace it days, weeks, months later or maybe never. Here with this case the chances of you doing that are slim.

At least that's what I think they were trying to accomplish but what the hell do I know.

It is the same reasoning behind survival bars tasting like crap. If they tasted like a Snickers candy bar, people would eat them out of the kits because they are bored on a flight or whatever. They won't replace them, and now the kit is lacking an important item for survival. So they make them taste bad so the only time you will eat them is when you're starving and in a survival situation and you have nothing else to eat. Again, I have never read this anywhere, but that's my logic to the whole thing and take it for what it's worth.

pretty cool looking little set up.. that S.O.L. kit has been around for a while now... looks like they just revamped it a little...

i know i will catch some shit for this but i love it. i mean it's set up great. knife, light, whistle, signal mirror, waterproof, not even getting to the inside contents (they are a good start and there appeared to be plenty of room to add extra's) and i am not sure how much bigger it is than a altoids tin but didn't appear to be that much larger. definitely fitting in a cargo pocket fine. either way i like the ingenuity of it and hopefully it will be less than 60 bucks but still a good start to a very solid set up

They are done. I didn't watch the video, but they are in production and are supposed to be shipping to us mid October. We'll probably see these before the fabled Ritter PSP Plus comes out. :D

Also, the MSRP is $50, not $60, if that helps at all.

Did they mess up on the vid? Or did the price just go down?

Glad to see you are getting them. I MAY have to get one and see what I can do to it.

Yeah, the Sparklite was originally from Four Seasons Survival and still might be the source for them, I don't know. Perhaps AMK purchased them or the rights to it or...anything can and does happen in business.

The main problem is, a lot of people will talk about how much plastic molds are and for the most part that is very true. They could have invested the money into making a slightly larger (than the classic British tobacco tin - in stainless steel instead of "tin") container as some of us spoke about over in the ESEE Forum. That would have been several times better than this container. Not just because I want such a container, but because it would also actually be better. :D

I have a sparklite in brass. Bottom unscrews so you can replace the flint

Huh interesting...the concept has some merit.

But I'd probably rather have the orginal AMK Ritter PSP and a SAK Farmer for about the same price.
