this time 2 weeks in the woods.

on a 4-5" fixed bk&t companion or like and a mini-kit.

weather is moderate climate deep pine woods.

I am curious how the numbers change

I still vote for the wave!

Well, I still pick the Gerber 800 multi-tool instead of the Wave, but since they're both multi-tols, I'm not *really* cheating. But I prefer the Gerber over any of the other multi-tools out there, and a multi-tool is way more versatile than an SAK Rucksack.

For the actual knife, I'd choose my Glock M78 Field Knife. And since we have the option of a mini-kit, I'll go with the kit that I actually have attached to my Glock's sheath in a compass pouch. I've got your basic Altoids tin kit, plus a wire saw and piece of hacksaw blade, since the Glock is only a so-so choper. Give me a canteen and cup, and I'll be happy. And maybe a poncho and liner for that little bit of "luxury". :~}

Well, if I already have the Campanion, then what I want is something that cuts really well, and has some other functions. SAK it is, if the Rucksack is the one i'm thinking of, with a saw. Though I guess the Wave is a close second, I'll bet the SAK will be easier to sharpen in a rock if you have to.

Although pliers would be nice. I have used the Rucksack for extended trips and found its whittling abilities and its saw very valuable for camp chores.

Rucksack and a Mora for me. I seldon have the need to tighten bolts or screws in the woods. Now, 2 weeks travelling across the suburbs, I'd take a leatherman and a set of socket wrenches. Funny how folks put locks gates but forget that the gate is just bolted on :)

I love my Sebenza and pair it up with a 15 inch Himalayan Imports steel mounted Ang Khola khukuri for a great pair!!:)

I have never held a Strider AR but it looks awesome!!!:)

If Cris gets to take an Ang Khola, I want my 15" HI sirupati! No wait, maybe the Ghurka House WWII. Of course, the 16" Khukuri House panawal AK is nice for splitting... Drat you Chris!

:D :D :D :D

If I had to pic only one item from your list I'd pic the SAK but not because of it's knife blade. Multitool and SAK don't fit to my folder definition so I'll vote benza.

I have to vote for the Wave because I really do go into the bush with a 5" fixed blade and it oh and a nice neck style blade

I was once planning a trip to aussie land and I read that the maximum length for a blade was 5". I thought that was a bit too short. especially for all the wild animals you got down there.

unfortunately;) , my wife and I went camping in Hawaii. :D

thanks for voting

Chrisaloia,
Your allowed to carry any length blade you want as long as you have a "Valid Excuse" :rolleyes:
I chose a 5" blade when walking on tracks in a National Park because the rangers discourage anything bigger due to Idiots:mad: that cut and chop at the bush for no reason.
When I'm off track I carry something a lot more substantial:D

I still have to vote for the LM WAVE, but
I still would always have my Seb. with me. :)

There may not be very many nut, bolts or screws
in the woods, but there are a coupe hundred more things
you can do with a multi-tool:D

Atrick-Pay, that's my thought exactly. I don't see why people limit a multi-tool's uses to machinery. I've used the pliers to repair a wire saw; to cut trip wire into suitable lengths for snares. You could use the pliers to lift a pot off the fire, etc.. The screwdrivers would come in handy for maintaining your firearms. As long as a man has a tool, he'll find SOME way to use it. :~}

I voted Rucksak...

I don't think I have ever gone out to the woods without a Leatherman, SAK, folder, and at least one fixed blade of 4-5" or bigger... usually have a necker too.

I guess if I could only have one, my SAK would be it, but I would rather have too much and not need than not enough and be fooked if I was in a survival situation. I guess I would probably slim down my gear in the field if it came down to that, but I can't think of a trip I've been on that my knife load caused me problems, it's usually all the other useless gear that I have that slows me down.

I've already hiked around the mountains of New Mexico (at Philmont Scout Ranch) with a SAK Adventurer and did quite well for the ten days, but if I had to get a new SAK for the trip it probably would be the Rucksack, just to have a saw with it! However, my current EDC is a Soldier's model, partnered with an Esquire, for the tweezers and scissors. I seem to keep using the serrated scissors as sure-grip pliers; I pulled the "rocket widget" from a bottle of Guinness Ale the other day, and before I've used them to pull broken keys from locks!

I voted for the wave.

I would, however, like to bring the Keating-designed Chinook along. That way, I can go hog-wild in the reverse grip on a big bad grizzly.;)

Well my choice would be for the sak and since the blade has to be 5 inch I prefer 9 inch,but for a 5 incher my fav is my Air Assault,Ilove that knife.
