Hi everyone,

New to BladeForums and knives in general

Looking for some advise on a fixed blade hunting knife.
I want it to be light weight and still able to process big game for backcountry hunts.

I know a lot of hunters use replaceable blade knives, but I prefer to have something more nostalgic that will last me a lifetime. I also hate the idea of dirt, blood and debris finding its way into cracks and paracord. The easier to clean the better.

I want it to have a handle. I know there are plenty of scalpel, paracord, and handless knives out there but I’m willing to carry a little extra weight for the grip comfort and functionality when processing game.

what would you recommend ?

Hope you are all staying safe and
thanks from Vancouver BC, Canada!

I'd recommend the Benchmade Hidden Canyon. I have used one for deer and hog. Works well g10 handles and holds an edge. Instrongly recommend using bladehq.com the tool on there is awesome and will help you narrow down your choices. What type of game are you dressing?

Or maybe this one:

Fallkniven F1 would serve you well, particularly on BC's Wet Coast if that's where you are. But there are about a gazillion choices. Spend some time looking through the reviews here.

As mentioned above, Benchmade and Buck have a lot of options.

They have enough options that I don't see any need mentioning specific ones.
It sounds like you have a pretty good idea of what you want.
Sites like Blade HQ and DLT Trading have enough filters that you could narrow down on your specifics so you don't have to spend so much time browsing.
That way you'll get to look at as many options as possible, maybe even quite a few that have slipped our minds or we haven't heard of.

Spend a couple or few hours looking through them all and take your pick. I'd recommend something in stainless since these days they've got stainless steels that hold an edge as long or longer
than traditional Carbon steels and you'll appreciate the rust resistance. Please tell us and show us what you decide on. If you've gotten into knives enough to join and post on BF,
I guarantee you'll wind up buying more than one over time, and that's often what it takes..buying and using a few blades to really narrow down what you want.
If you're like most you'll wind up with 3-5 different knives you regularly use for different tasks.

I recommend Buck 100 series knives. The Pathfinder would be a good choice. Whatever you choose if the guard is not silver soldered to the blade, consider using JB Weld to seal out gunk.

Thanks for all the advise and suggestions.
Started looking on some of the sites you guys recommended and the white river backpacker pro caught my eye. Some similar ones from smith & sons as well but trying to find a better price to stay in my budget.

any experience with these ?

cheers
