OK, I got the edge sharp by raising the angle against the stone.
THEN..... I got to thinking about honing down the edge to where it could take the 30 degree Sharpmaker. (the angle necessary to get the edge was about 45 degrees or steeper....to get to the actual cutting edge.
However..... NOW I think mebbe I would be better served by just going at it to get the entire thing to conform to the Sharpmaker ...40.... degree stones so it would be an easier chore to refresh it as it would take it from flat to edge in one angle.

This sound right?

It takes pretty extreme use to require an edge ground at 20 degrees per side. If you cut the primary back to 15 not only will it induce a significant increase in cutting ability it will make sharpening at 20 degrees much faster because you will just be honing a small piece of metal at the very edge and not the entire bevel. Just grind the edge down roughly with a bastard file or x-coarse stone. You can do this in a few minutes.

I'm scared. A ...file.... ? Have never used on a blade of a knife I cared about. How do you control it to keep from scarring up the sides? Use a jig or back on a Sharpmaker? DMT fine backed on a SM?

Cliff, you're a troublemaker.

:D

Okay.... (phoo).... yer right. But I dint use no FILE. I used a coarse STONE. Like a CIVILIZED guy. An..yeh...itz better.

But yer still a trubble maker.

An it dint take no FEW minnits. It wuz FIFTEEN of em.

so there.
:D

You can use a jig on a file, just rig up something like a Edge Pro. Cosmetics will come in time, eventually they will look really nice and crisp without any effort to make them that way.
