Newbee here, in every way. This is my first post. I am wanting to re-profile an EDC. Can a "7Cr17" steel blade handle a 18 dps edge? Thanks.

In my opinion that is still too obtuse and you should go for 15° per side or even less but . . . I get ahead of our selves. What . . . pray tell is the knife and what are you going to use it for?
Chopping, slicing, etc. ?

Yes, 7cr17, which is the same as 440A, can handle 18 dps no problem.

It's been a while that I have posted here - it all depends on what (and maybe how) you are going to cut. Paper only? Zip ties with twisting, whittling wood?
