Hey y'all, I've got an anvil that's dated 1908 it's treated me well bit I think it's time to put her aside.when working on some new twisted pot hangers today Noticed a big crack about 16" back from the horn that is starting to spread with every ping. Does anyone know who sells them in central Texas? I'm looking between 150-250 lbs, or is there anyway to fill the crack? This one has been in the family for years and I want to keep using it but if it can't be fixed it's gonna be one big paperweight in my shop.

Look in the phone book for Farrier supplies; blacksmith supplies; and on Craig's list.

A quick search on google found lots of Texas sellers of new and used anvils.

Centaur Forge
Texas Farrier Supply
Alvin Blacksmith Supply
A&P Tool
C&M

Here is a master list of Blacksmith suppliers:

The crack could probably be welded, but to do it properly it would need to be ground down to the bottom of the crack and filled from there. I would heat the anvil to about 450-500 before starting the weld and use 7018 till I was about 3/4 inch from the top then switch to hardfacing rod. It would need resurfaced when done. If the anvil is one of those with a welded on hard plate is that what is cracking, if so it could be replaced. Another idea is to take say 3/4" off the top fix any deeper crack and then grind flat and attach a hardened plate. Family stiff is worth the effort.
