New AR- Can I sit at the cool table now?

I've put off getting this particularly breed of evil black rifle for quite a while, but I broke down and bought a lower a couple of weeks ago. Today, I chaperoned my stepdad to the gunshop to help him pick out a pistol, and found a very large assortment of uppers at one table. Of course, the bastards also had lower parts kits to mess with my head.

They had standard M4geries, 20" uppers, and some dissipators. I was initially interested in the dissipators but they were only carbine length, which sort of defeats the purpose. So next to that I found an 18" upper with rifle gas! I always wanted a 17 or 18", but they seemed to be few and far between. This fella is a flat top, still need to pick up some folding sights.

This is also my first kit build (excluding the upper of course) and it wasn't too tricky luckily. if I were a rich man I'd do several more!

Now I'm thinking of going back to sell my Saiga .308 to fund it.

Congrats! It looks good although I would swap out the flash suppressor to one that helps reduce muzzle rise. Currently Midway has good Stoner mags on sale in both the 20 and the 30 round versions. My own Ar build project got put on the back burner for a bit, been buying up ammo this month. This coming week should see parts starting to roll in however. At least I have my other complete AR to play with till my newset one gets finished.
 
Thanks guys! I'm happy with the functioning so far (unfired I mean). For sights probably some Yankee Hill folding sights. I might get just a rear folder and a fixed front, though.

Down the line (probably waay down the line) I'm gonna get a free float tube to streamline the barrel profile and lighten things up a bit. :thumbup:
 
Ah, I've been around the block for quite a while. Just stayed away from this breed. :D Plenty of AK's and such before this feller.
 
ah i see that now. i misread it. i miss my ak. i sold it a couple years back when i was in a tight spot for money....now i finally got it replaced. posted a thread in this forum section on it.
