New around here... Looking for advice.

Hey guys, I'm new around here. I stumbled upon the site while browsing the internet looking for a new knife for the upcoming hunting season. I'm pretty picky but hopefully you guys can point me in the right direction as I'm sure somebody on here knows where to find what I'm looking for. I'm looking for an 8-10" overall hunting/skinning knife with a leather sheath. Preferably Damascus With a medium layer count so the detail isn't super small or super huge. Wooden scales in a deep red color or a dark antler of combo of those... I'm a humble guy I Don't have a ton to spend, I can't afford a full custom right now so I wouldn't be opposed to something second hand. Thanks in advance and I look forward to getting into some discussions around here
 
new to bladeforums but definitely not new with knives, given the specs you want. There's no production damascus blade i know of (except sprint runs and extension shops,) so it's going to be custom. check out the knife makers forum, and also the exchange. but keep coming back here until the knowing experts on damascus knives pop up. welcome to the forum.
 
Oh I'm pretty new to knives haha only knives I've ever really had are some Kershaw pocket knives and a few Bowies. Nothing over like $50... I just do my homework and I know what I want haha I've been piecing together what I want for a while now in my head and finally settled. And yeah I know it'll have to be "custom" I just probably can't afford a full on custom commissioned piece. Maybe if somebody already had something laying around that just needed a handle or something if you catch my drift?
 
Keep an eye on the custom knife makers for sale forum here..I bet you'll see something you'll want within a week.
 
Do you mind stating what you are willing to spend so we can give better recommendations? Around $180 will get you something pretty sweet from Dan Graves.

Oh ha yeah that would help wouldn't it! My bad I thought I said that already..$150-200 or so is about what i had budgeted. That's a nice piece! Looking for something like that for sure.

It's all good. Yeah I saw that one going through all the for sale posts. I can see I'm gonna need to start a fund... I'm in trouble haha
 
Oh yeah. I was considering a few but That sheath really sold it. And Dan is making me a nice Damascus piece like I had originally wanted so I can't wait.

Yeah. That's a gorgeous piece of leather and a steal at that price for the overall package.
