New Arrival: Chamblin Hiker

I'm excited about this new one. Joel Chamblin posted two of these for sale here on Blade Forums and I was blown away by the design and opportunity to afford a fine custom knife from one of the best makers around. I contacted Joel, and he was happy to build me a Hiker pattern with spear point in CPM 154, with orange G10 lined green canvas micarta scales.

The knife is fantastic in person--hand-filling scales, perfect fit and finish, 3 7/8" frame with sunk joint, extremely smooth walk and talk, and the back spring is so flush with the liners I can't see it, even in person. The grind is nice and thin, with smooth swedges, and the spear point is begging to be used. This one is in my pocket, and has already been used. It fits exactly in the niche I was hoping for EDC, and I'll be sure to give it proper hiking use as well!

Thanks to Joel Chamblin--the man simply builds a heck of a knife. :thumbup: I wish the pictures were better, but there are what you get with a cell phone at work and bad lighting. :D

That´s really a beauty. I like the Micarta in combination with the red fiber liners and the shield.

This will definitelly make a great EDC... :)

Great looking knife, with clean and simple lines. Green micarta and orange liners is a sharp combo too. And of course, impeccable workmanship. You've got yourself a unique beauty there, Daniel.
 
Just beautiful! Since seeing green linen micarta in person for the first time lately, I'm hooked. Everything about your knife is perfect. Wish I were brave enough to order a custom.

No bravery required! The guys making traditional slip joints around here are great, standup gentlemen. They will do you proud if you contact any of them for an order. What was really fantastic about this knife from Joel was that when I contacted him (just two weeks ago) he was already building some of these. I got to specify the scales and steel type, and we were good to go!

You make it sound so easy! My "bravery" problem is I simply can not explain what I want. That,s why I always comb the knife makers section hoping that perfect knife will just show up there one day.

That's amazing that you got one in two weeks time.

This knife pushes a few buttons for me - single blade - 4" length - lanyard tube - looks like enough blade showing to possibly pinch open. If I may ask - how easy is this one to open (very important for me).

It's pinchable for me--but then again, all of the slip joints I've had are. If my other two knives are a 6 (pinchable but stronger), this one is somewhere about 5. Maybe slightly weaker pull than the knife it replaced (my Erickson), which was slightly weaker than the other two. The numbers confuse me, but if you want a pinchable blade this one definitely fits the bill. I wouldn't mind for it to be stronger, but it's just fine where it is. And I trust Joel's judgment, after all--the man knows what he's doing.
