Its been just a few days shy of a year since I got my #48 trapper and with a little cash saved up I decided it was time for an addition to the GEC stable. Enter the #72 wharncliffe lockback in ruby red bone. Here are some quick & dirty pictures (lighting was lousy in my kitchen with the overcast skies outside).
I am reminded of how much I like the tube and wax paper packaging on these.
Well, I dig this knife a lot. The build quality and finish are up to my expectation for GEC. I love the shade of the bone. The edge is quite respectable. I would need to touch it up a little to shave anything but its a solid improvement over how my 48 edge came. The point is incredibly keen. The action is very smooth. Good snap at the open and closed positions. Theres a smidge of vertical play when open and the blade lays a bit off center when closed but Im not worried about either. Its very easy to open with the amount of pinchable blade and light spring tension. A nice bonus is that the 72 fits smoothly in the sheath I use for my Russell gunstock, so belt carry is ready to go right from the start.
Compared to the 48.
I think the next step will be finding some cord in a complementary color to make a lanyard. In the meantime its carry and cut.
