It’s been just a few days shy of a year since I got my #48 trapper and with a little cash saved up I decided it was time for an addition to the GEC stable. Enter the #72 wharncliffe lockback in ruby red bone. Here are some quick & dirty pictures (lighting was lousy in my kitchen with the overcast skies outside).

I am reminded of how much I like the tube and wax paper packaging on these. :)

Well, I dig this knife a lot. The build quality and finish are up to my expectation for GEC. I love the shade of the bone. The edge is quite respectable. I would need to touch it up a little to shave anything but it’s a solid improvement over how my 48 edge came. The point is incredibly keen. The action is very smooth. Good snap at the open and closed positions. There’s a smidge of vertical play when open and the blade lays a bit off center when closed but I’m not worried about either. It’s very easy to open with the amount of pinchable blade and light spring tension. A nice bonus is that the 72 fits smoothly in the sheath I use for my Russell gunstock, so belt carry is ready to go right from the start.

Compared to the 48.

I think the next step will be finding some cord in a complementary color to make a lanyard. In the meantime it’s carry and cut. :D

Congrats. I was looking at these not to long ago, If I'm correct, the blade is 440C.

Scared the crap out of me, Nate ..... scrolled down, looked at the first pic: .....:eek::eek: ..... Oh No! GEC is makin' knives with holes in the blades, and pocket clips, and synthetic orange handles!!! :D

Nice looking #72 - great bone color. Congrats!

Here are some better pictures from last night. I'm hoping to get some good outdoor shots this weekend.

Tang stamps. The setup is such that the entire model number is not fully visible at any position. I wish it were since I really like how they look on GECs.

Fantastic!!!!!!!!

Looks like a whole lotta blade to pinch open!

I don't think I have seen one closed before in a pic. Looks great.

She's plenty pinchable. Doesn't even blush when you do it, or maybe she does and I just can't tell since red is her natural color. ;)

It's an older Nikon point & shoot. Rather dated as digital cameras go but with good light it gets the job done.

Looking good Nate!! Please let us know how you like it after using it a bit.

Great pictures to boot. What knot did you use on your lanyard?

It's a lanyard knot. Also called a diamond knot, bosun's whistle knot, and various other names.

Got some more pics of the 72 in the fading afternoon light. Don't have them all processed yet but here are a few.
