Well, here's a list of the new arrivals that we'll be offering once the 20th of May shipment arrives:
1) Gangawal - this is the "three tanged" khukuri that comes with five tools instead of the normal two. The blade looks pretty much identical to a WWII, and the scabbard is sort of "minimalist" with no brass tip. My favorite part of this new model is the EXCELLENT quality chakmak and karda (the chakmak actually has a cho!).
2) Alternate Ivory Mini-Jungle Dragons - This is a limited edition model - limited by the amount of "alternate ivory" that I brought for TB to work with. The blade will be a mini-jungle with dragon engravings ( I visited the engraver and that is another story to tell!). The "alternate ivory" is a synthetic substance that I bought from Koval Knives, and I hope it looks nice. The fittings on this model will be brass. Expect about 10 of these.
3) The Woman's Khukuri - I don't mean to sound chauvenistic, but this is the english translation of the Nepali name (which I forget at the present moment). The shape is entirely un-khukuri like, but rather, resembles a sickle. I think this will be a hit, but I'm not sure - so I'll only bring in ten or so. We'll see what the public thinks (I didn't use one, but I thought it looked very functional).
4) Ang Khola Panjawal - I'm only bringing in a couple of "prototypes" of this model. It's based on the standard Ang Khola we offer, except that the horn handle is shaped with "finger grooves" on the grip. I copied this design from a tourist model I found in Thamel, and TB said he'd build a few to see how they sold.
5) Gurkha Bowie - Only the prototype at this stage, but I will post several pics of the prototype for commentary. Perhaps we'll auction off the prototype with proceeds going to support the Dashain (SP?) festival GH and Khukuri House are going to sponsor in Dharan this year (for the benefit of the bishwakarmas and their families).
6) Contest winner: So far, only the one will come in. But we will do a run of them for the next shipment for all who are interested. Look for delivery on the standard run sometime in the next couple of months (but contest winner: look for yours in a couple of weeks!)
Gosh, I think that's it. I can't remember any other ones. We do have some one-of-a-kind odds and ends that I picked up from TB's store room on (like a very few white deer horn khukuris, two huge bowies of the HI design, and some other things that I can't remember). Needless to say, while Marya is in Finland next week, I'm going to be a busy man!
