New Axe at Auction Help Please

What you've got is a plumb michigan pattern double bit axe , probably 3.5lb and likely from the 50's or later. It should be a great axe, the sheath looks nice as well and is definitely something the owner bought separately.
The handle is American hickory and is simply stained which Is how plumb axes were.

Interesting that it's stamped 3 5 instead of Plumb's long traditional 3 2, as used to denote 3 1/2 lb. As Square_Peg suggests, check for a post-1955 epoxy-filled eye. I suspect this is an Ames-takeover era (1973-1981) Plumb product which means it was made in USA and some semblance of top quality will still be there.

Also: Decal on the Plumb 'mahoganized' OEM (very very likely) handle is long enough to state 'wear safety goggles'. Take a close look. If it does we're talking late 1970s at the earliest.

The R.H. Buhrke cover is interesting. They made golf bags and that web strap and buckle scream military issue. Wonder if like almost all business during WWII who made something for the military, if Buhrke made that for the military axes? John

I have researched the Sheath with zero success other than the Golf Bag thing

...and when (ie during what period of time) did Buhrke make these recreational-purpose Golf Bags? Very good chance the original owner bought this recreational-purpose sheath after he/she bought the axe. We're trying to make an educated guess about the vintage of this item, right?
