Hello All,
I just received a new axe as a gift and I noticed that the head is curved when I was going to attempt to sharpen it.
(can't figure out how to upload a pic)
looking from the top it is curved to the right -Should this axe be returned for a different one or is this still acceptable?
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you.

Tell us what kind of axe it is and where you got it, we need a little more info here.

Oh yeah right sorry about that.
It's a truper brand axe. 3 1/2 lb. Jersey axe. Don't know where it came from but will ask if I decide to exchange it.
I wish I could post a photo...the 'curved head' is really bothering me.

To post a picture you will have to get a Flickr or other photo hosting site (photo bucket etc) post your pic there then move it to here.

Regards
Robin

When you say curved head, you mean the bit, when looking at it straight on, curves from left to right?

Truper axes are made in Mexico and don't have a good reputation for quality control. If it was bought at a local store, maybe you could find an acceptable one in stock to exchange it for. If not, then maybe you could return it and get a better 3.5# Jersey axe made in the USA by Council Tool, available for $30-something (instead of the $20-something Truper)

At that price point a head that is not perfectly aligned with the handle is something to be expected. If the steel itself is curved or warped then you should definitely return it. Either way you should probably take Steve Talls advice and go with Council Tool, they are a solid American company.

So if the bit itself curves, which I would find hard to believe, but coming from China who knows, then yes, return it, and then look elsewhere. Council, BMC, and individual makers are where I would head. Or, if "new" isnt a major priority, I would look at older axes, those that can be picked up online, flea markets, garage sales, etc. They are of better metal and manufacturing, and will last forever.

Just a guys 2 cents.

Hope it all works out.

WOWZA that's BAD! You're making the right choice exchanging that one. My expectations of a cheap beater axe aren't high, but that's a serious flaw that will really shortchange you in the performance department.
